Keith 21 #1 Posted May 14, 2012 Why do some Uni-Drive models have a clutch and brake pedal and some have both combined into one pedal? Can the 8 speed transmission be setup either way?
smoreau 658 #2 Posted May 14, 2012 Yes and no, You can set up a 8 speed with a clutch-brake pedal like I did for my brother, but you have to make a brake rod with a bend in it. Hydros have the same setup but parts are not interchangeable. I think for safety reasons WH made them into 2 pedals to keep confusion down.
Tim 97 #3 Posted May 14, 2012 Safety when I was a Kid we had a suburban 400, one pedal. If stopped on a hill and can't roll backwards, you have to let the brake/clutch out quickly so the tranny stops you from rolling backwards if you went too fast or let it out too much you could pop wheelies or flip the tractor. with two pedals, you can hold the brake until the transmission engages. My father was always backfilling and the drops were significant. on flat ground, it really did not matter
