I too am having problems with an 864/sms-42-a. Missing the travvel mount mentioned above and rod-lift part # 3495. My bigger problem is finding where the rod-lift fits into assembly frame (weld) # 1954. Thanks for any advice you may have, I just can't figure it out.

there should be a 3/8" hole on the back side of the welded frame where the pulleys mount for the belt to the gear box for the lift hook remove the 4 small bolts and front cover to put a cotter pin in the lift rod

I have a extra travel hook and mount for $40.00 plus shipping if you need one

Serial # A-19750 on the mower, if that helps. There's NOT a hole in the assembly frame that I can find. Thanks

Unless it's one that's used for something else, I don't believe it's there. If I can get the thing out of the dirt I'll be interested in that travel mount. I really appreciate your time. And I have no idea where that line through my previous post came from.

That makes me feel better, I think. Can you give me a rough guess as to where to drill a hole to get it in the approximate area? I want to put this thing to work, but it's a go no further as it stands now. Need one tooth (section) that I was planning on having made by a fabricator friend of mine, 2 new belts, Wobble box seems tight, the assy frame needs a little tweaking as the pull up to travel position bar is sloppy. The tractor itself is as good as I could ask, after a week of work. I'm done worrying about it for today. Have a great week.

I just realized that I called my tractor an 864, when we all know it's an 854, made in 1964. I apologize for that egregious error. Now I'm going to bed.

I'm now convinced mine is a sms-42, without the lift rod. My plan is to alter it into a 42-A. Brian, I discovered your 854/sickle project earlier, fantastic job, and the pictures really help. I have the mower disassembled to a point that I can work with it. Al.

As a retired 61-year-old who inherited 4 of my Grandfather's Wheel Horse tractors, I found a valuable resource in this forum. Here, I connected with Bob Parks (Racinbob), who at the time lived nearby and kindly agreed to help me identify all of them. I ended up keeping the 1964 Model 854 and sold the others. The 854 is a solid, primarily original tractor, and I've been using it since I was 6-years-old. I also had the RM-364 mower deck attachment, which had not been on the tractor for many years. Once again, this forum proved its worth as I could identify and obtain some attachment parts that I was missing. Last week, after some adjustments, I put the mower deck to use and mowed nearly an acre of grass without any issues. The sense of accomplishment in identifying and restoring the equipment was truly inspiring, and I felt like I was a kid again.

As someone who doesn't consider themselves 'mechanically inclined,' I've grown and learned much through this project. I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all of those who guided me and showed me that with the right support, even the most daunting tasks can be tackled.

These belts have been hanging in my garage since last used I believe there off a 754 I used to have. Bought them new and didn't use much.
Don't know why I took them off. Some fraying on top in a few places from use, also don't know why but selling as is and photo'd. 20.00 shipped if you can use them.
PM for PayPal info or questions. 16" ID approx.

Okay friends husband and I brought home another mutilated mutation that I felt sorry for and wanted to fix….  Questions will it run??  Lol… what model for sure?  So I believe it’s an 854 and would like feed back to confirm..  lots of stuff coming off… has the k181s tag on the engine!  Two piece gas tank!  So if my friends on here would agree or disagree I would be able to see how much I have been learning over the years!
