DavidD 0 #1 Posted May 9, 2012 Good Evening, everybody, I have a 1990 312-8, came back into my garage with a big puddle a gear lube. It appears to have come from the drive pulley shaft on the right side. Can that seal be replaced from the outside, like the seal on the brake shaft? Or does the case have to come apart? Thanks, DavidD
Anglo Traction 761 #2 Posted May 9, 2012 Nope !, your good to go at it from the outside same as the others.
racinfool40 202 #3 Posted May 9, 2012 David, Yes you can replace the seal from the outside..You'll need a P/N-100442 seal and that is the toro #. MIKE

kpinnc 12,524 #5 Posted May 9, 2012 Strange that it would be that seal that is leaking. I have an 8-speed like that where the entire seal and "notch" for it were wallowed out because the PO put the pulley on too close to the tranny. Even without a seal, it does not leak because the oil level is lower in the case than that. Maybe I have a fluke. I always wondered why mine did not leak. DavidD 0 #6 Posted May 11, 2012 Thanks guys, I got lost a few days. Tooo much stuff catching up with me. @ kpinnc, thanks for that post, it made me go out there and look at it again. it is not coming from the seal. The oil is leaking out of the case halves seam about even with the center bottom bolt. Right where the little bridge bar crosses overthat connects the axle mounts for the blade. Looks like I have to pull the transaxle out and apart. @ Mike and pfrederi, Sure do appreciate the part numbers.

It might be that you have a level lot, mine has leaked out of both sides. My yard is around 16 ft or more between the high and low points with a lot different slopes in between.
