redmosquito1 2 #1 Posted May 8, 2012 Ok, someone help me out here please. I replaced the brake seal tonight and I think that should solve my leak issue and I drained all the fluids and flushed with Kerosene to get the water out. I then spent the better part of 20 minutes slowly pouring gear oil into the dipstick hole a little at a time, using about 1/4 of quart bottle. Then I remembered I had a 1/4" hose in my garage and tried that. Not better so then I removed one of the bolts on top which is open to the trans and tried filling there, 15 minutes later I'm at 1/2 a bottle. So can anyone give me a tip to speed this up or am I just not patient enough? Thanks a million Tom
gwgdog66 23 #2 Posted May 8, 2012 On my 75 C-160, I can unscrew the dipstick tube, and get a larger funnel into the hole, and it goes much faster.
Martin 2,133 #3 Posted May 8, 2012 there is two bolts close together on the rear top surface of the trans.....just back from the shifter hole. clean around them and remove one. the air will escape through the hole while pouring oil in the dipstick. you are displacing air with oil and it has nowhere to go....... redmosquito1 2 #4 Posted May 8, 2012 I did that and it still is taking forever. I'll try again tonight and hopefully it goes smoother. Thanks for the tips
stevasaurus 22,867 #5 Posted May 8, 2012 I pour the oil right down the shifter hole. Works great, just watch your overflow or dip stick. :)
tunahead72 2,432 #6 Posted May 8, 2012 Tom, All very good suggestions so far, just wondering... Are you pouring from one of those skinny plastic bottles that gear lube sometimes comes in, that you have to S-Q-U-E-E-Z-E to get anything to flow? If so, you could unscrew the cap completely and pour directly from the bottle, or snip the end of the tip if you want to control the flow a little better. Anglo Traction 761 #7 Posted May 9, 2012 I find that warming the Oil up helps a lot, just stand the new container in a bucket of fairly warm water for 10 minutes or so, flows much better.
