The guy that owns it also has a lot of other parts and I might be back there next weekend to pick up a few NOS hoods!! Here are some pictures!! What model stickers are these? Martin 2,133 #5 Posted May 6, 2012 not meaning to rain on your parade or anything. but i probably wouldnt plan on using any nos decals with any success. they have usually sat on a shelf for years, and when you go to remove the backing you will screw them up. the adhesive is the problem. much better to get terry,(vinylguy) to make some repro ones and have a hassle free install that will last for years. and look absolutely awesome too!! just my 2 cents..... now the nos hoods, thats something that doesnt have a shelf life.... hope that works out well for you..... AMC RULES 37,143 #6 Posted May 6, 2012 That's not necessarily true, all depends on how they were stored. I've used 40 year old NOS decals, that everyone said would never work, with no problems at all. A close inspection will tell if they're serviceable or not. redmosquito1 2 #7 Posted May 6, 2012 Well........ I really want to know more so I can go see what they have laying around. I would like to get some decals though, when I reprint my tractor I might order a set of that style from vinylguy. I just got my correct decals in the mail Friday and man are they sweet. Martin 2,133 #8 Posted May 6, 2012 craig, there are of course always exceptions, and i guess it all depends on how they have been stored. ive found though that in general, what i mentioned has been my experience. there are many other hobbies, pastimes that involve restoration with decals and its a fairly common problem. if you want to take a chance thats fine, but ive found that over time the adhesive is never as good as when its 'new'...... plus there are other deterioration problems as well, but like i said theres always exceptions to the rule. and theres nothing worse than paying good money for something that doesnt last, or isnt quite as good as you expected...... for me, id just rather get terry to make them.......
can whlvr 993 #9 Posted May 7, 2012 for the 99 percent of us that cant get the old decals terry is the best option
Forest Road 594 #10 Posted May 7, 2012 Terry is also much cheaper than Toro. My Toro dealer ordered a set for his 520. i have yet to hear of a disappointed customer.
liketoplayto 6 #11 Posted May 7, 2012 old stickers can be salvaged what i do is like what my wife does with wall papper before i start peeling the back i soak it in water for a few minutes helps moisten the glue on the back then i put little adhesive where im sticking the stickers and take dry towel as i start laying on the decal slowly and when its in place i use towel with small amount of pressure take out any air pockets just my 2 cents but it works
AMC RULES 37,143 #12 Posted May 13, 2012 Some heat will help to reactivate the adhesive too. I like to lay them out in direct sunlight. Depending on how hot it is...only long enough to take any memory out of the vinyl and backer...so they lay flat again. This usually will does the trick, let them cool again before trying your preferred application process though. Obviously, if the vinyl is faded, brittle, creased, tattered around the edges...vinyl lifted from the backer so that the adhesive was esposed...they will most probably be rendered useless at this point.
