thats usually what happens when welding any steel that has a galvanized or 'plated' finish on it. the galv burns and leaves a powder that usually just brushes off. smells great too.....

That truely is a labor of love! That deck should be grateful, anyone else would have scrapped it, but your bringing it back to life!
