Choke adjustment help

Recommended Posts

bo dawg

The choke on this SK486 I don't understand. The choke lever/cable will close the choke on the carb, but wont open it without lifting it up with my finger on the linkage to help open it. It just wants to bind up

So I unhooked the cable and checked the choke assembly and it is loose/free to move open/close. So then I check the cable and I can move the lever up and down freely as well, sliding in and out. But when I hook it back up it does the same thing, once choke is closed the cable wont open it.

The cable seems to be a bit longer than it should be, so would this cause it to bind up?

I played around with the tip to make sure it is fitting right and adjusted in the clamp/bracket but nothing I do seems to make a difference. I never had one act this way before so before I go giving it an attitude adjustment I figured I would ask what to do.

Hi Bo Dawg,

It is possible that the Outer Cable has loosened off at the Clamping point on the back of your lever . The cable movement when you close the Choke(on) draws the inner cable towards the Dash and the Outer hits the Clamping Plate.

When you want to Open the Choke (off), the Inner Cable moves together with the Outer...thus no action.

I suspect you'll need to access the back of the Dash and clamp the Outer back onto the Lever bracket with some Pliers. Thats all I can think that is causing your problem.

Regards
