squonk 41,155 #1 Posted April 26, 2012 Major renovations going on at the hospital I work at. They found an old fuel oil tank that has been abandoned for they think like 40 yrs. or so. It had about 4000 gal. of diesel in it and they had it tested. It was still good! They pumped it out and sold it for 44 cents a gal! . As they were dragging it out they tore the top of a manhole off.The best part is there is going to be a tunnel where the tank was. Saved on digging. They are cutting the foundation right in our shop for the tunnel entrance. Hydraulic powered buzzsaw followed by a hyd. powered chainsaw. Power is provided by an old VW motor connected to an hyd. pump
AMC RULES 37,130 #2 Posted April 26, 2012 It's always amazes me just how much crap is buried in the ground, on the job we make craziest discoveries everyday too. Was that tank under an existing parking lot Mike? :scratchead:
squonk 41,155 #3 Posted April 26, 2012 Yes It was under the ambulance entrance. They are building a bigger ER and it would have been right on top of the tank. There isn't going to be any basement there so if that tunnel wasn't going in they might not have found it.
MikesRJ 552 #4 Posted April 26, 2012 That's pretty cool Mike. Saved on digging, got an environmental hazard out of the earth, and brought savings to anyone needing cheap fuel. A three way we in for everybody. Thumbs up. Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk
squonk 41,155 #5 Posted April 26, 2012 Too bad I couldn't time the last pic right. They cut a pipe near that scaffold that's connected to a sump pump. When the pump turns on, it dumps all over that scaffold! I wonder what they are going to do about that! :scratchead:
AMC RULES 37,130 #6 Posted April 27, 2012 Having that blacktop overhead is most probably what prevented the bottom of it from rotting away over the years, and becoming an enviromental nightmare.

Jim_M 178 #9 Posted April 27, 2012 I bought a diesel tractor that had been sitting for 7 years with a half tank of diesel. I opened the drain, drained off 2 ounces of water and fired it up, runs fine and makes plenty of power.
6wheeler 603 #10 Posted April 28, 2012 You know? I was digging around in the old pasture I was plowing for the new garden. I found the hopper part for the old Manure track that was in the barn. It was half full of old manure. I don't know if it was still "good". But, it still smells like manure. I just gave it away . Sorry, I just couldn't resist .
