plowed with the 8hp today

Recommended Posts

started plowing the garden with the 73 8hp today. i tried it earlier this year and the 10" brinley plow was a little too much for the tractor. the ground has never been broken and is full of rocks and an occassional root. I decided to cut the plow down to 7.5". that has made all the difference in the world. it still bogs down a little when hitting rocks, but just powers on through. I have to disc later, but the robins were lining up to get at the earthworms.

lots of fun and love to hear that old kohler getting 'er done. :)

I got a 10" for my Power King and figured it would be a bit much for the 704. I have an 8' plow off of a David Bradley that's been modified for slot hitch use but it's all painted up for show use. I'm on the lookout for another 8"

I love the economy tractors.

I think you are right about the 704. the 7.5" does a nice job and make a perfect furrow for the 6-12 lugs to ride in, so an 8" would work well. it also helps that I weigh 230lbs. :)

thanks everyone for the nice words :text-thankyouyellow:

I got a 8" plow painted up but it does not have the coulter on it that i would be willing to trade to a 10" if it looks nice.

Great setup there and nice 73 8hp! You can be surprised with what the smaller Wheel Horse tractors can do!

the 8hp kohler has a ton of torque. my grandson was surprised when he hooked up the WH our boat and moved it out of the yard. it is uphill and our old scotts 14hp hydro always had trouble. the 8hp moved it at half throttle without a strain.

My 10" is a never been in the ground Brinley with the Craftsman label, but I'm saving that for the Power King. I need the 8 for my 704. I want to take both of them to a plow day sometime :)

nice look putting the tractor fenders on the 73,

the boys and i picked out the things we liked about different wheel horse tractors. I wanted to keep it an 8hp kohler, and quick attatch and manual pto.

they had a 854 and liked the look, so we put on the fenders/toolbox. the rear tires are off of an rj. the front tires are on 3.75" wheels fron a b-80. we are installing a 32" mower deck fron an rj. the only other thing I might add is an 8 speed from a '73 8hp-8speed.

so, it is kind of a heinz 57 :)
