Little help guys....What are they and how much?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have a guy that told me about some real old Wheel Horse tractors down the road from me that another gent has for sale. All the info I have is all must be bought as a group. All engines turn over but dont run. Other than that...he told me to come check them out in person and make an offer. I think theyre RJs but really dont have any idea what years or how to identify them or what theyre worth as a group. One looks to have a working mower on it and another seems to have a back rest of some sort on it. Any ideas to help me identify and get a price together for an offer. I'm going to try to check them out tomorrow or Friday. Thanks in advance

Hey, your a little behind on this! They have been on craigslist for 3 weeks! A couple other members are interested in them also. I inquired about them but I am not going to buy them, see your new PM... Also I was told by a fellow member that the two on the right are RJ 58's the one with deck is a Suburban 551? And the one behind it is also a suburban if I remember correctly.

the two side by side on the right appear to be RJ's. If you're seriously interested I would check them out sooner than later. The odds of them being sold before friday go up a lot with any delay. The seller is a collector so I wouldn't imagine they go very cheap. $1200 ish? (pure guess) I think that's a sears suburban in the back.

A rj-55 came up in one of my craigslist searches early this morning somewhere in MD for $200 but that's cheap and out of my driving range.

The 2 side by side are RJ-58/59s The one with the deck is a 551 and the one in the behind that looks like a 400/550.

The one in behind is a 400.

Nice set of tractors, and for what I heard he is asking if they were within 500 miles of me I'd already own them! LOL

Goin on a road trip tomorrow to take a looksee and hopefully pick me up some nut roasters. I talked to him tonight and made arrangements. It still makes me worry a bit that none of them run. I hope I'm not making a mistake.... I will definitely need lots of help from you guys to make this deal work. I cant believe my herd is going from 1 to 6 in 1 day.....

If they are going for the price that I've heard the guy will take there is no way you can lose on them. If they were a little closer to me they would have been here a week or two ago.

$800 doesn't seem like an unreasonable asking price to me but I'd flash some cash and offer less and see what happens.

To some guys that would take years to find that many RJs/suburbans & you have the oportunity to land 4 in one swoop , if one of those came up here in the UK they would sell for more than $1500 each no problem

GO & GET THEM RIGHT NOW BEFORE THEY GO

im sure it would take too much trouble to get them going with the help that you get FREE from all the guys here on REDSQUARE

I started on getting the Suburban runnin. Changed fuel lines and new filter and drained the tank and filled it with fresh 92 octane.... boy the gas was ugly that came out. post-1339-0-67445600-1335467748_thumb.jp

But it wont start. What is this doohickey and what goes in all these empty spaces?post-1339-0-35217900-1335467769_thumb.jp Could this be why I gots no fire? I will post more later with descriptions and such but I gotta run for my llil guy :auto-layrubber:

Hodge there is supposed to be a fuse in the last picture. But the fuse is missing.

Other than that, what a nice bunch of tractors you have there!

Those missing fuses won't prevent the Tech H55 from firing. It will only prevent the battery from re-charging.

Positive that what you have is 2 RJs, a 400 and a 551.

The Teccy motor is correct for your favorite tractor, the 551. The rectifier is missing 2 diodes and a fuse

Ive been thinking about selling my 4 RJ-58s and all the attachments and parts I have. I have 4 tractors-2 have Kohler K91T , 1 has the Clinton and one has no engine. Only 1 is missing the serial number decal. Kohlers run. Clinton needs a carb. I have original exhaust shields AND belt guards for 3 of them. 3 mower decks, 2 plows, cart, 2 spare transmissions, parts breakdowns, original manuals and sale tags, seats, tires.  Not sure if I should sell it as 1 big collection or break it up. And also a good starting price?  I'll post pics when I get a chance. Thanks

i do not know how to route this throttle cable on this RJ 59, i will attach some pictures, i watched packrats video on adjusting the govner on his 401, it did not look the same. also i think that and is way to long so that might be part of it. ( and also the color on that block looks beautifull) there is come pics, the more the better!

The RJ58 was the big hit for spectators this year at my local festivals here in Carroll County OH.
the children loved getting their pictures sitting on it, then they discovered the bicycle horn under the steering wheel. It’s always a joy even in parades. Just love showing off part of my collection every year and hearing all the stories from those that had WH in their lives at one time. Can hardly wait to get to retirement so I can get some of my other models back to their glory in working order and be able to attend other shows/festivals throughout the year. My fellow tractor enthusiasts always know when a spectacular starts asking about WH, they point in my direction. I study up on the history of the different models and always intrigue those that didn’t know much about how WH came to be. This website is one place that has helped me learn so much about the WH history and I thank you for sharing your knowledge that I am able to pass on to keep WH alive and well.
