Bob

Hate to bother you when your down to the wire but, did you find any front tires yet? If not I've got a decent set I can get to you. Let me know.

There has been some progress. Everything has been primed, and thanks to Dave (funengineer), I have front tires.

A couple of week ago, Terry (vinylguy) sent me a reworked dash decal. It has the words "LIGHTER" and "IGNITION" located in their proper spots. Tonight it is raining here in Maryland, so I decided to do a little dash reconditioning.

Here is the dash before...

It's a definite........maybe!

If all goes well, and I have another good weekend to paint. Then, all I have to do is remember how it all goes back together. The advantage that I had on the B-100's is that there was always a complete one that I could refer to when reassembling. The Commando is going to be from memory (which in my case is not good) and from about 100 pictures that I took at various stages of disassembly.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this project a 6-1/2.

Hey Bob its looking like you'll make it. Darn those tires look good. :bow-blue: I used my 857 as a model when I put my Commando back together. Can't count the number of times I kept going back to look at it. It was a lot easier than looking at the "before" pictures.

I used to have an 856 which would have been an excellent source, but without that, and just using my brain and pictures, it might end up being a Commando 7.2

Progress report:

Got some tractor time in over the last couple of weekends. Started painting and assembling. Although a little more is done than what is pictured, here is what I have assembled as of today,

post-2221-0-12144100-1338979503_thumb.jp

The rear tires are originals. The fronts are courtesty of Dave (funengineer). The wheel are powder coated. The paint is PPG acrylic urethane in a color called GM Standard Red (WA7475).

By the way, I hate the PPG paint I am using. It is the Shop Line series, and it is as thin as water. It runs way too easily. I would have the engine completely assembled if it were not for having to repaint the blower cover three times due to paint runs. I'm going back to Kirker on the next project.

That makes the fronts original too. :laughing-rofl:

Looking good Bob.

Can't let you drool all over my keyboard, so here's a couple of pics.

Most of the parts have been sand blasted and a little body work has been done on the pan

post-2221-0-22537100-1336762198_thumb.jp

Since the axle holes were really worn, and the spindles were wobbling, I reamed out the holes and inserted bronze bushings

post-2221-0-88902500-1336762192_thumb.jp

The shifter set screw hole had damaged threads, so a heli-coil was inserted.

The NOS hood is sitting patiently in my basement, waiting to be united with the rest of the tractor.

That's it for now. More to follow.

how can you do this whit the body from the parts

Just thought I'd update my progress. All of the painting is done, and assembly is coming along. Here is a teaser of what's been going on in the Maynard shop during the past week.

Good eye. Choke is original. Haven't had time to do anything with the knob. Throttle is new. The previous owner had a lever type as a replacement and it had to go.

I had serious doubts that this one would get finished in time for the show. If you remember, this is what I had on April 20 when I started this thread.

Now, here is my progress as of 8:00 PM tonight.
