Got some new rubber

I bought a set of the Firestone tri rib 16x6.5x8 tires a few years ago, and I love them but was disapointed that they dry rotted bad, I called Miller tire to ask about it, well they had issues with a batch of tires at the time I bought mine, so they are going to replace them, well I wanted another set to put on my loader project, that I hope to get back to soon , so I order two more not cheap but they are great tires, I ordered them sun. night and when I got home today there was a big box waiting for me, with these inside.

I wish I had time to mount them but with work and loading for Mentone swap meet it will be next week, and then ship the old ones back.

kelly, how do these compare with the deestones? other than size, hows the rubber and molding qualities of the tire? i realize that you get what you pay for and i know that these are a much more expensive tire, just wondering how they compare to a cheap tire like the deestone. they do look like a real nice tire.

kelly, how do these compare with the deestones? other than size, hows the rubber and molding qualities of the tire? i realize that you get what you pay for and i know that these are a much more expensive tire, just wondering how they compare to a cheap tire like the deestone. they do look like a real nice tire.

Not trying to answer for Kelly, but my set of these has not dry rotted at all. These tires are much thicker and heavier than regular tires of this size, and can be quite a bear to mount up- much like any other 8-inch tire, but compounded by the "sturdy" construction.

My understanding of Miller Tire Company is that they like to buy old tire molds and actually produce many of the tires they sell in house. I have NO proof of this, but it's what I've been told.

I'm glad it all worked out for you Kelly. Those tires are far too expensive to have such problems with them.

Very nice Kelly. Those are some very heavy duty looking tri-ribs! So far I've been very happy with my Deestones, but those are very impressive looking.

Kevin hit in on the nose, these are very heavy duty, a bit of a pain to mount, I do all my own tires, I've been mounting car tires for my race cars for near 30 years by hand, so these are for the most part no big deal, but the small ones are the toughest, as compaired to the Deestones, it would be like compairing apples to oranges, I have both and both are nice tires, if I want the smaller tri ribs I buy Deestone, and you only have one choice for the big tri ribs.

Kelly, nice set of stones. I bought the same set from Miller. Being a 4 ply tire, they were a little hard to mount. I put tubes in mine and they seated fairly easy. My only problem was they are made in Vietnam and being a Vietnam Vet. that kinda upset me, but I got over it. I though Firestones were made in the USA. Don B.

Well it's been a couple weeks but I got my new tires mounted today, it went much better than I had planned, I broke the beads just by using my feet standing on them, I used tire irons to dismount them off the rims, but I put pieces of cardboard on the rim so not to mess the paint up, and lots of soapy water, now I need to box the old ones up and ship back to Miller tire, unless someone wants to buy them for what they are giving me for them back? I'll put a ad in the classifieds for a few days. anyway here is the new ones mounted.

Certainly understandable Don. No one can blame you for that. It is my understanding that Miller Tire buys up old tire molds and actually manufactures most of their tires right here- which is why they have so many kinds that aren't available anywhere else. Not sure about these tires specifically, but... :eusa-think:

Ken here is pics of the first set, but looks the same, now this is with 26x12x12 rear tires, and the fronts mounted on stock 5 3/8" wide rims are about 17" tall, the stock tires on my other 520 are about 15 1/4" tall, but with gear reduction steering and these tires it turns with one finger, a spinner knob is awesome with this set up.

And I hear you on the foreign made stuff, but I really like these tires and you can't get them any place else.

520 looks great nice job got one question is the unidrive an axles going to hold up with the larger rims and tires in the rear might put alot of psi on the rear end, i think toro did make a heavier axle kit in the past looks nice but is it workable or just a show tractor

Well I plow with it all winter, with a 48" blade, and I plow the road and 2 driveways here, in the summer it gets a mid grader and pulls all kinds of stuff around I'm not kind to this work beast, I figure these tires are not really any bigger that what the factory used on the C-195 with 15" rims and the same trans with longer axles, or the D's with longer axles and stock 26x12x12 tires.

I think the heavy duty axles I think are just square cut key ways not the halfmoon keyways.

Deestones are cheap? Thats not good Thats what I bought.

terry, i have the deestones on my 1054, i really like them. i guess i should have worded that differently, dont take my 'cheap' as crap or inferior. the deestones are very nice tires for not so much money...... :thumbs:
