Worn Kohler 16HP single from a WH 416-8 => Worth Anything ?

Members, I scrapped an old very worn WH 416-8 tractor from the late 80s (I think) whose engine was burning oil badly. The motor does not want to come apart. I did get the flywheel off but it still very hard to move because of its heavy cast iron block. The engine bore looks great which suggests that the engine was well maintained oil wise. However, this tractor was really beat.

I am at least the 3^rd owner and bought it for spare parts. Any guess about the value of the engine?

Is it worth rebuilding so I have an engine ready to go?

Note, I have a fully operational 2^nd WH 416-8 from the late 80s. Will I be able to get engine parts in the future ?

The K341 and M 16s are getting harder to find every day. It is definetly worth keeping. I see bare13 fin blocks sell for $150.00 all the time. Even 12 fin blocks are valuable these days. In tractor pulling the 13 fin K 341 is the prefered block in the stock altered class.

I sell rebuildable complete K341s for $200+ that is one that is not broken, just worn and needs rebuilding.

No, its not worth anything. Can I have it? The K341 is an awesome motor, and definitely worth rebiulding, or selling to someone who needs one.

I find the 13 fin blocks on everything, and all years, but I'm going to say 70's the most, but that is probably what I get in the most of.

I believe that this 16 HP Kohler single cylinder gas engine is a M16. The fin count is 12.

Union Mills is very close to LaPorte, Indiana (~11 miles). Perhaps Otrelwood (member # 4917) would like to check this old engine out ?

(I just uploaded a picture of our operational 416-8 as my member picture. This picture was taken after I put the tractor back together following a frame failure. The transmission literally ripped off the frame so the WH 416-8 had to come all apart.)

I love those old Kohlers. I was working today and could tell a lawnmower about 1/4 mile away had a thumper on it. It ended up being a mid 70s c series Wheel Horse.... They are a very good motor!!!

Yesterday I purchased a new air-cleaner for my operational 416-8 and questioned the EXPERT KOHLER dealer about the cost of rebiulding the spare engine. The parts man said that it wasn't worth the cost because they charge $7x.xx per hour for labor. => How many hours can it take for someone who knows what they're doing with the correct tools?

You might not need a rebuild, might be the crank case breather or a set of rings. Should check it out more either is way cheaper than a rebuild

4hrs around here we can get one done for $100-150 labor not at a dealer just a pullers garage

Around me for a basic rebuild with new parts that is boring the block and truing up the crank, grinding the valves and if they put it together will run $800-1000 if you put it together take about $200 off.

I am new to this and have seen engines that need a rebuild sell for hundreds, but when I tried to sell one that I have I couldn't get $50. Maybe I live in the wrong place.
