18 auto hydro motion controls

Recommended Posts

Hodge71

Guys I need some help and I'm reaching out. Some may remember that I took my pump to get looked at by a hydro specialist back in January. Well they couldnt do anything with it as it was DOA. Fast forward to present day. I got a great pump from Kelly that I took apart and cleaned up and today I installed it. The problem is I had left all the motion/speed neutral controls mounted to my pump when it went to the doctor. When I got my junk pump back from Northeast Hydro I didnt take notice that all the brackets were gone. I called them today after I realized I was screwed and they have no recollection of them. They remember they were on it but not when the returned it to me once they looked at it. It apparently is a different system compared to the actual D series controls. I need this set up real bad. My tractor is completely useless without it. I could never make it go without the brackets that mount to the pump and have all the other assorted brackets mounted to it. Then the assorted rods from the speed/motion/neutral controls mount to it. PLEASE HELP and let me know of any out there

Bob,

I'm just going by what the Sundstrand manual shows. Apparently 1973 had its own design, 1974 had its own design and 1975 had its own also. Maybe it had to do with the parking brake linkage...Maybe I'm totally wrong and just panicking and not comparing the drawings correctly.

Craig, I guess a prayer will do for now. I hope I can find this set up. I cant beleive 6 months and 2000 smoliens and I now have a tractor that doesnt move.... :banghead:

After all the hard work discovering this must be a bit hard to handle.

I really don't know enough too be able to offer much help re what will fit but it would be easy for me to photograph the setup on my D for you to see what's the same and what's different when it comes to sourcing a set of the parts you need.

heres a pic of the area that the brackets bolt to on the pump. You can see the 3 holes where it mounts. Maybe this will help someone identify the bracketry I need and take some pics . I can forward that to the vendors here for some help....post-1339-0-88234200-1334620418_thumb.jppost-1339-0-06020800-1334620437_thumb.jp

I'm not sure if this is helpful to you or not Jeff but I took the panels off and took a couple of photos.

This is the arrangement on my D-200 so its later but may help you identify the differences.

Your pump has three threaded holes round the motion control shaft. It was difficult to tell if mine has but certainly only one little bolt secures the pump to the bracket on my D.

Good luck with your search :handgestures-fingerscrossed: I feel for you on this one brother.

Thanks Andy but mine was totally different than that. Your pics have definitely helped me narrow the search. I cant believe I've come this far to be held up by this. Thankfully Kelly has offered to lend me a hand here with the brackets. I just hope between the 2 of us we can figure it out.

Unfortunately, both of my D's share the same linkage setup. Pretty much the same as Andy's, so I don't think any pictures would help.

Kinda sux that Wheel Horse would change the setup so drastically between years. Even my two D's are slightly different with the parking brake. One has it on the vertical panel, and the other one - well, it's not on the vertical panel, and I haven't bothered to dig enough to find out.

Ok , guys how do I become one of the "disfunctional 'D' family members" Member?

I thought I had seen that on more than just one of your names and this thread shows 4 or 5 with it.

:bow-blue::text-thankyoublue:

hodge71 I believe I have the set up your looking for, will have to dig it out of the box it's in. My 18 auto is in resteration mode.

I believe that Andy (wheelhorseman) wrote up how to put that in your signature in one of his threads. You should search his posts.

Welcome to the family!

The description in red below your avatar is set by the forum guys but you can change the grey one above the avatar.

To change it first click on your username that appears in the black band at the top of any RS page.

On the drop down menu click the link to 'My Profile'

Just above you profile on the right is a button 'Edit my profile' click on it

A page of 'General Account Settings' is displayed.

Scroll down to the section 'Profile Information' and look for the box called 'Member Title'.

It will contain something like member / advanced member / supporter etc.

Delete this and replace it with Dysfunctional 'D' family member

Finally scroll to the bottom and click 'Save Changes' button.

It will return to your general account settings with a green box saying 'Settings saved'

I get the funny 'I'm busy doing something' thingy that hangs around at the top of the page sometimes.

It's a glitch on the site - ignore it and go back to wherever you want to be.

Just a bunch of guys helping each other out along the way.

Andy

My friction disc in gone on my clutch.  I saw the old post about making a new friction disc, so I'm not concerned about that.
I managed to remove the front clutch plate and double v-belt pulley.  But I can't separate the two.  When I took the assembly off the spiraloc washer popped off on its own.  I HAVE READ THE MANUALS.
So I should be able to just remove the pulley from the front clutch and continue with step 4.  The v-belt pulley is loose as all hell and flops around like a dead fish.  It seems to be hung up on a ring or bearing race.
So my thoughts are grab a BFH or sparky the blue tip wrench.
Is there an unpublished step 3.5, or some trick?

      Hey all,

My '74 D180 has a lot of trouble pushing snow.  Weighted tires, but nothing else at this time.  I've found it gets stuck frequently and only one wheel spins.  Do these tractors not have a limited slip/locker arrangement?  How does everyone manage with the infamous one wheel peel?

Hey all, I need to install a drive belt on my 75 D180 for my snowblower.  I've looked through a bunch of D-series owner's manuals, and none seem to mention replacement procedure.  The PTO pulley is fixed, save for engaging the PTO and there is minimal movement at the snowthrower pulley. There's no idler or tensioner as far as I can tell.  Do I have to remove the PTO pulley?  That seems to be a required service item.
Same question for my 80 D200 as well really.

      Using the recommended 4L490W belt.

      Thanks

I got a D-180 for $250, and the governor is messed up, the points won't open or close, and I took it apart and was being stupid and messed some stuff up in there, and now I need a new one.
Where can I get one that's not on eBay for $200?
I also forgot to say it was a Kohler K482, and I'll throw some pictures of the tractor in as a treat.

Not sure on specific model. This 8 spd came attached to a plow I bought. It had some water in it for a couple weeks according to the prior owner. I drained it, sloshed some diesel in it, drained that, then filled with fresh oil. Spinning the input shaft by hand, I can see the axels turn. Hasn't leaked any oil. I'm not really interested in shipping, so I'd prefer local sales.
