Blackhood 1057

Recommended Posts

Martin

terry (vinylguy) and i have been working on a remedy for my crappy looking hood top. i liked the idea of making it into a black hood and at the same time disguising some of the bad areas of my hood.

most of you who are following my 1057 build will know the problems i have with this hood. just thought id post a few pics of what we came up with.

i also wanted to have a :wh: logo in the middle of the blackhood, gloss black to contrast with the matt black, havent installed it yet, sort of up in the air about whether to use it or not.....

gallery_4321_61_64301.jpg

the carbon fiber was an option as well, but i decided in the end to stay with the matt black......

these samples had the cutouts for hood ornament and hood catch lever. decided against them. looks cleaner with just the slot for the hood catch lever cut out afterwards.

I really like the gloss on matt logo idea Martin, just at the other end (leading edge) of the hood.

That :wh: logo should be leading the way. :teasing-poke:

I can relate...I usually do the opposite of what my wife wants me to do too, then regret it later. :eusa-doh:

Is the carbon version going to be for sale Martin?

I like it.

The carbon is cool, but I think it'd be out of place on that vintage of tractor. Would look pretty cool on a 520 though. And if you got a carbon dash done on a 520, that'd really be cool...

as far as the carbon version or any color for that matter being for sale, i will let terry answer that one.

I like it.

yes, the carbon does look good, it had a purplish tint to some areas and i didnt think it was going to look right, so i decided to stay with my original idea of matt black.

yes jake, i think it looks awesome, and it has definitely 'disguised' the hood issues........

Very nice Martin! :wicked: I always say there's more than one way to skin a cat! That sure took care of the problem with the hood, along with personalizing your horse. I would use the gloss black emblem on there for sure, but I would put it in the middle of the hood. :twocents-02cents: Anyway that sure is a sweet looking BandAid. :ychain: Terry does awesome work! :woohoo:

Great install job Martin. Did you do a wet install?

I like it.

Their is a carbon fiber vinyl available. I will find out the difference in cost for digital vs. carbon fiber. The digital printed vinyl is a wrap material with air escape technology which makes install very user friendly so they each have their pros and cons. Once I have the templates for the seat pans done so Martin can

show us how they look I can make them out of about any color vinyl available or design. Now it appears I need a 400 and 500 series hood.

I really like the flat black look Martin. Breaks up the red but still looks very much Wheel Horse.

yes terry, installed wet..... really happy i took a chance and went with the decal on the hood...... in person, definitely brings the hood to a higher standard. that top never quite had the same gloss as the sides and front, just didnt look right. not perfect now, as i can see some marks have come through, but that vinyl really covered well.

i applied it wet, but i found it to be easier to get it right without the premask. this vinyl when installed wet is very easy to get where you want it and with the slight curvature of the hood, worked very easy to a wrinkle free finish.

i will work on the seat pan in the next day or so.

A bit of photo shop work to get an idea of what it may look like with the logo in gloss black

Just my opinion but I like it without the logo.

thanks for doing that. gives me an idea of what it would look like. not sure i like it now. the matt black only looks more in tune with the rest of my build.

like sparky said too i was thinking the other way around.

and jeanine doesnt like it either, so i guess the decisions been made. decal or divorce...... :ROTF:

as far as the seat pan goes, looks great , im thinking i might try them going down the front and back of the pan. or at least the back to cover some gremlins!!!!!!

The logo looks better flipped but i still prefer it on my tool box.

I think I will include the gloss black decal in each kit and let the individual decide.

this is great that you are doing this terry. saving me some headscratching time. thinking i might loose the front part of the pan just doing the back. still not sure what that would look like. can you color this one in for me with your black crayons? but in one piece, no break. id rather not do any of the front or back but i need to cover the back just a little......

I like this look Martin. Do you think you can make a template for a one pc like this? The bend does not look too extreme to wrap the vinyl.

alright. i think i know what i want now....got to imagine it with the seat and what that will look like. i will be getting a mid rise michigan seat from northern tool same as what was on it. http://www.northernt...oduct_7687_7687

17432_lg.jpg

all the red in the middle section of the pan will be covered. i might tweak what youve done just a little with the last pic and see how that looks. that extra piece of black vinyl that you sent will be my helper.

now i need my truck to look the same........

hood, roof and around the top of the bed sides......

just joking......

I have Dubbed It The "Martin Blackhood Mod" MartinMod for short

No more sun glare up in your face. Is that why they designed the blackhood tractors paint scheme? :confusion-confused: Probably not because they were not a flat or matt black
