D-180 fluid question

Recommended Posts

multihobbyguy

I purchased a D-180 last summer and I am just now unloading from inside my trailer and had a question about the fluid. I am going to change all the fluids and filters before I do anything with it and was checking it over and it says to use 10w-30 on the sticker for the rearend but I am certain the guy said he topped off the tranny with just plain 30wt oil. I have only driven it on a trailer and off the trailer for the most part. Is there going to be damage from the wrong oil? Will I need to worry about getting every last drop of that oil out which seems near impossible unless I were to try a alcohol flush. Let me know if I need to do anything other than drain and refill with new. Thank you, Chris.

It should be fine. Depending on the weather in your area depends on what oil weight to use. 30w for warmer climates and 10/30 for cooler climates.

Believe that is what my manual says.

Nice tractor. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

The hydrostatic pumps for the 74 and 75 D-180 should have 10W30 in them. Topping it off with 30W will not hurt it but when you drain the tranny fill with 10W30. Use the correct filter also. If you need help selecting a filter for the transmission please ask. You probably know that though.

Thank you for the replies guys. I have it in the garage now. I am currently printing out the service manual for the engine(91 pages) before I get started. Changing the fluids and giving it a tune up and cleaning before I put it to work. Thanks again, Chris.
