Got a free Horse

I want to thank you guys for the information and the kind words. The enthusiam and willingness to help a newbie is awesome!

I cranked the horse today and she will only run well at 1/4 throttle, any more she starves for gas. Is there a source for a metal fuel pump or a kit for mine? It has a k301-47648d in it, pump # 47 55911-s. I have a plastic replacement coming for $35, but would like to keep the original.

A couple members have the decals and knobs that I need, I will visit them soon. I also need a seat cover, but have not found a member with one. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

check the carb bowl and clean it out and see if that helps with the throttle problem and weres the pictures of the rest of the stuff you got with it :)

The carb was clean, it was the first thing I checked once I got it up on all four again. I brought it home with 2 flats and one of the front spindles was missing. I got it into the shed, and it promptly went thru the old floor! Just got that fixed so this weekend I'll go up to Kalkaska and get the rest of the stuff.

they made that tractor in 78-79 good score will clean up nice with a little labor

I was curious about the date, some parts of the story don't seem to square. Any idea where to find the data plate? I haven't had it long enough to really get too far into it.

up under the battery tray on the same side as the lift handle should be a tag towards the bottom

No luck on the tag, I can't find one anywhere. I'm gonna start pulling sheetmetal for painting soon so I may find something then.

Hey guys, finally an update. I found the id# above the amp meter but under the sheetmetal overlaping it from above. The number is 91-12k802-12622. Under that is 9050. Can anyone tell me what these mean? As for the running problem, I shoved it into the barn 3 weeks ago 'cause it would not start. Today I shoved it out and tried starting it and it ran but with a high rpm miss. As I took the sheet metal off looking for the tag, I found the ground to be rusted and probably not making good contact. When it goes back together I'll probably run another ground to the block from the original spot. Has anyone else run across this problem?

Nice catch Roscoe. 91-12k802 is the model number. Not sure what 12622 is for. I believe that 9050 is the sn.

Use the model number and try getting the manuals from toro. Sometimes they have the available for free.

There is a wheelhorsetractormanuals group on yahoo that has a ton of manuals in case you can't get what you need from toro.

There is a great wealth of knowledge and experience around this site. Feel free to ask any questions, likely someone will know.

I agree, the knowledge and experience of the people on this site is incredible. Thanks for the tip, I'll try it out.

Your high RPM miss could be a number of things. One being a worn out throttle shaft. You can get a kit to repair that. I have the same thing going on with one of mine. I was just getting ready to get the kit when I put a higher Octane gas in and it seemed to clear the problem up. The gas now days is junk and can cause a lot of problems. Like I said there can be a number of things that will cause the high RPM miss, bad ground, spark plug, ignition switch, etc, etc. I was just lucky to have found that mine was caused by junk gas.

I read through this thread pretty quick and if someone posted it already I missed it. The model no. 91-12K802 comes back as a 1979 C121 8 speed. You can find the engine, transmission, owner's and service manuals here: http://www.mywheelhorse.com/modules.php?name=Docs&do=show_doc&id=180

Congratulations on your "new" tractor! I'm jealous, the C-121 is on my short list of tractors I would consider to replace one of my existing machines, you and your son should have a lot of fun with this one!

Your tractor came from the factory with a Kohler K301AS spec. 47648D, same as you mentioned in one of your first posts.

The Kohler owner's and service manuals are also available here on RedSquare under the Files tab, they're easier to get to here. There's also a transmission repair manual there, which you'll find very useful if you ever need to tear yours apart.

There's also an engine parts manual, and a tractor parts manual and electrical service manual available. I think you can get these as free downloads from the Kohler and Toro sites, or from the mywheelhorse and Yahoo sites that others have mentioned.

There's manuals for your mower deck and snowblower also, let us know if you can't find something. I can't speak for the blower, but you should be able to find a separate ID tag on the mower.

By the way, I've been told the 12622 on your tractor is the Wheel Horse serial number, and the 9050 is the Julian scheduled build date (50th day of 1979, or Feb. 19th). The 9548440 serial number on your engine indicates that it was also built in 1979.

Malmac, I believe right now the miss is from the ground. Before I started tearing it down, it would do it sometimes and other times be fine. The ground was definately not good. The carb is in good shape, plug and ignition switch are new.. I try to stay with the good gas, minus the alcohol of course!

JimD, thanks for the link. I do need manuals for it.

No Tuna, you can't have it! I'm not sure if you info is the same as JimD's, but will check it out. The mower and blower have it id tags and will get to them after the tractor is set, a couple weeks. Thanks for the dates. After talking to my bud, that squares with what his brother told him about the purchase date (he bought his at the same time). As for the deck, I'm getting some spindles from a fellow member and that should be good to go with a little welding.

Coadster32, It really didn't take much talking. It was sitting about 7 years and he wanted it to go to a good home. Other than a paint job, I'm gonna put a stack on it. The muffler has burnt the paint of the front of the hood! When I ran it yesterday, the whole motor was hot! The plug showed a touch rich, so I'll check the shroud for airflow accross the head.

Thanks for the leads guys, I will follow them up and appreciate all the help.

Looking to find a new home for my 84 (I think) C-145. It has a dump trailer with the enclosure for leaves, the PTO impeller to get the leafs into the trailer, the hoses for deck-to-impeller, impeller-to-trailer.

I haven’t run it in over a year.
The battery and the cable to the battery probably need to be replaced.
Comes with a new head gasket still in the bag.
Seat is cracked but still comfortable.

Happy to answer questions or take other pictures.

I’m looking for wheel horse tractors for sale or for parts in the Eastern Nebraska or western Iowa area. Preferably 8 speed manuals. Pm me or comment with what you have. The worst I could say is it’s out of my price or distance range. Edit: engine is not important, it’s going to get an engine swap.
      Thanks,
      John

Hello all. I am looking for suggestions on adapting the pto from my C series tractor to a harbor freight predator 420 13hp engine. I know the predator motors are a controversial topic however it is the route I have chosen for this particular machine. The intent was to mostly use it for plowing so no PTO required but it would be handy to have. Looking to hear from someone that has successfully done the swap that may offer any advice before I attempt to transfer it over. Just looking for any general pointers that will help me along the way to make it go as smoothly as possible.

1979 c-101 nice project tractor just needs a few odds and ends, steering wheel, coil, carburetor bowl, the wiring was redone by previous owner....all 4 tires are good and hold air it goes into all gears no problem, transmission fluid has been changed, 10hp Kohler, message me or call or txt with any questions, it does run and runs well,  it’s been kept inside since I’ve had it, I would also trade for a mid mount grader blade thanks
