New Tires

Recommended Posts

bluelinehiway

Pulled the 1067 out of the barn yesterday. Started right up and I gave her the once over for Spring. However, the front tires are going flat(original WH brand) are 16 x 5.5 x 8 and I'm having quite the challenge finding tires in this size. Anyone replace their tires with new and what was the new size or a source for this size?

Thanks.

I used 400x8 tri-ribs. Got them for $40 a pair on :techie-ebay: Here is a pic.

I think you can use 16x6.50x8 with no problem. They are only 1" wider. The 5.50's are near to impossible to find, unless you want used tires.

In the early 70's WH put 16x6.50x8 tires on the same rims, they are a little wide, but do fit, or you can use a 4.80x8 tire you will not find the orig. size new.

Thanks for the updates. I went to TSC today to buy the 4.80 tires. Found then for $27.99 and tubes at $7.99. I'm at $36.00 bucks and I still have to change the rims / tires. Found 16 x 6.50 x 8 tires and rims at TSC for $32.99. Wheels had a 1"hole and the WH axle is 3/4". Bought some bushings (3/4" ID and 1" OD) to fix the spacing and withacouple washers per side, fixed the front end for under $ 37.00. Pretty close and I got the rims for free. Properly set up, the new wheels / tires work great.

Time to sharpen the blades and install the cup holder!
