So today re-affirmed for me that there is still good stuff out there to be found. I was checking out Craig's List a few days ago and saw a listing for a new Wheel Horse hood. The ad said it was for a C120, had never been installed and to make a fair offer. I'm still real busy at work, Not at the beach like some people:angry-tappingfoot:, and didn't get a chance to call. When I remembered about it 5 days later I figured it was gone. I checked, and the listing was still there. I got a hold of the guy and he said he had one guy call, who he had some choice words for :ranting: because he low balled him at $25 for it. He basically told him to you know what in his hat and he'll crush it first. He then told me there was some other NOS stuff and because I sounded like a decent guy who wasn't trying to screw him he would let me have the hood and all the other NOS stuff for $50:happy-partydance:. I barely could contain my excitement. That was last night. So today after 32 hours straight at work I headed to his house to collect my bounty. The story goes he bought this stuff over 20 years ago to restore a C120 he had but never got around to it and ended up getting rid of the tractor. He put the parts up in his barn and thats were they have been ever since.

Well now the parts are in my shop and they will going on my C160 this spring. The paint is unbelievable. A couple of small imperfections but nothing that can't be buffed out.

Crazy how $25 for the hood alone is low balling him...

but $50 for the whole lot is perfectly acceptable.

The parts owed him nothing and he knew that they are no longer available and guys restoring the tractors are looking for them. By our conversation I think he was just so irritated by the other guy he decided that the next guy to call that seemed honest he was going to hook up. I told him that I wasn't really sure what they were worth as there isn't any guide book but I was willing to work with him to come to an agreement. I asked him for a price that he felt comfortable with and I guess he just decided that I was going to be the guy to get the deal so he said $50 and you can have everything. I told him that sounded great and I would come pick them up tomorrow.

As a caveat, if it was a member here that was the guy who made him the first offer, I'm just relaying the story of how I came across the parts and how the deal went down. I myself did think it was an insult to offer $25. I had a guy last week call and offer me $20 for the 4 tires I had for sale. They were a full set Carlisles' with like 75% tread left and had no dry rot or cracking. One tire did have a plug but a tube was included along with two tubes for the fronts. I told him that wasn't going to do and he would have to come up some. I was selling them for $80 and would have taken $50. He told me good luck and I'd never get that much for them. Well you can guess what I told him. They sold two days later for the full $80. I myself was planning on offering him $100 for just the hood before I even made the call. I have seen what they sell for on Ebay. The last one I saw went for well over $200. I guess I'm just old fashioned. I don't ever try to screw someone over and always try to give someone a fair price on what somethings worth if i'm truly interested in it. Too many people today want something for nothing and that's just not how I do business. I'm off my soap box now.

Is it an optical illusion or does that deck just barely fit between the vans wheel wells? Are 5XX decks bigger that the regular WH decks?

Mike....

It's the shrink wrap, and the van is a small van, a ford TransitConnect.

The deck is 32" roughly, by 52 wide

That came from Indiana.  But, yes, if I can, LOL.

Indiana!?!  I had to go out of state for both 5XXs and what few attachments I got...  I got family in Cincinnati and thought maybe I'd drive there with the F150 empty but if you've cleaned out everything from Buffalo to Indiana I might as well just fly!

I already know.....but it's what you CAN'T SEE in the pic, that's the REALLY BIG DEAL.

What you can see is just the steering wheel of a model Aldon deeply loves and reveres.

Look at 'resto-mod' and you'll have a clue.

The BIGGIE I'm going to let him talk about!

Ricky:  Luuzzzzie, I'm home!
Lucy:  Where have you been???
Ricky:  Luuzzzzie, I can 'splain.
Lucy:  Ricky, you BETTER 'splain, and 'splain FAST, or you'll be sleeping on the couch tonight!!!

:laughing-rofl:
