nyquil junkie 225 #1 Posted March 24, 2012 I have a DR wagon I bought new, with a 8HP B&S engine. It's almost 4 yrs old, and I've had issues with it since I bought it. Under warranty, they told me to take it to a service place which I did, and of course it ran fine when it was done. Now here is the issue. If you change the pluf to a new one, put in fresh gas, and turn the key it fires right up. For a few days it will run fine. Then one day very soon, you'll turn it off while warm and then, good luck getting it started. You turn the key and it wont fire up. BUT yank the cord a few times and it starts. So woe #1, why will it start with the pull starter and not the electric? Then after a few days.... you have to yank and yank and yank to get it to start up. Then you have to run it with the choke slighty on. This will continue untill it starts to stall all the time and I get PO'd and walk away from it for a few days. Then I put in a new plug, some fresh gas, and start the cycle all over again. I complained to DR that their B&S engine was a piece of junk, and I want a replacement. They said it runs, take it to the service center for a tune up. I said "I can do the tune up" they said no.... if its not running their authorized cneter has to fix it. 2 yrs in, I stopped calling them and making road trips to the service center. I have old engines that will run on old gas and rusty plugs and never stop running. This new B&S... you have to be it's wet nurse. Yes... It has a clean new air filter, and the gas cap vent is clean. The gas is always new, the filter is always clean. Now, is this just what junky new B&S engines do, or is there something I just havent considered? I have other DR stuff and those new B&S engines run fine in all weather and dont require being continuously tinkered with. Yesterday, after 4 or 5 hours on a brand new plug it started that not wanting to start with the key and needing to be slightly choked while using the rope BS and I seriously contemplated putting a .357mag slug right in the side of the crankcase and buying a new engine. or swapping it for my antique engine on the log splitter that has run flawlessly for..... ever. Any ideas how to cure this, or better suggestions on where to put the bullet?
