Mule Drive for a 416H

Recommended Posts

Hello all, new forum member here. I hope I'm posting in the right place. I've searched the forum, but can't find the answer. I'm one of those that tries to find the answer first before asking. I'm sure I will have some more questions as time goes on.

On to the question:

I just got an 1990 416H with a 42" rear discharge deck. It came with a home made mule drive (pulley setup that mounts on the front Attach-a-Matic, I hope I'm calling it the right thing) for the deck that doesn't work worth means. I was wondering if a mule drive off a 520H with 60" deck would work for this application?

Thanks for your help.

yes the 520 mule drive should work. as far as i know the only difference in the 520 mule drive and all the others is that the 520 has a spring loaded tensioner. if im wrong, someone will chime in and correct me.

The 60" deck has a different mule drive and won't work It's the only one different to my knowledge. post a ad in the classifeds and you'll get one in no time. Lots of them around from lots of different people. Or pm Kelly (a member here) I'm 100% positive he can get you taken care of. Along with anything else you may need or just want possibly.

Yes a mule drive / belt tentioner from a 60" deck will not work right, it may work but not be correct and the belt size may be off because of the diff. yes I can set you up with a mule drive, send me a PM

I have a 416-8 that I am rebuilding to look like new, have a 48 in mower deck for it and have had to buy all the mounting hardware on ebay,  I have the mule drive rebuilt, But I cant get it to go in the quick-tachk, looks like I might need to do some grinding on the fixed(top) of the quick tach to get it to go in, anybody else ever had this problem.

Either the mule drive is bent in some way or the tractor attachment is messed up.  They usually go in easily.

You did reply to a very old thread, it is often to best to start a new one when that much time has gone by.

If you can link to a photo, maybe we can see what is going on.

If you are not holding the mule drive up tight in the front hitch it won't latch.
