Around here you need to have "No Tresspassing" signs up on your property.

Its all to protect yourself so that from the ******* who comes (uninvited) on to your property on his snowmobile, hits a tree and hurts himself, and then turns around and sues YOU. It has happened around here.

Charlie , Did you have a ORV sticker on your truck? That's what I got nailed for when I was your age. DNR and not a cop got me and they actually have more authority when your not on the road then any cop does. Count your self lucky that it wasn't the DNR that got you! They can seize your truck, give you a lot more fines. I was lucky that there was no signs When I went from privet property to state land. I had no clue that I left the property as I was following a trail and it was on Mothers day and I didn't get My new sticker yet. The guy was very nice after I was nice to him, but at first He showed his authority and was quite ornery. It was a $55 fine for no ORV sticker and it was a mister meaner, a lot better then what he could have done! It pays to be nice when you screwed up and you got your self in a pickle!

Own up to your mistakes. Too many people blame others for their actions. This is one of the biggest problems we have in this country. I learned long ago that its better to be honest when you've messed up. Sounds like you handled things in a mature manner. Good job. Yes I would fight a ticket if you are able.You shouldn't need an attorney. If you can save fees or points on your license it's worth it. What ever you do, be honest with the judge.

I learned a valuable lesson similar to yours when I was a little younger than you. A buddy and I packed our lunch in a back pack and headed out on the local trails for a day of riding. Along the way I realized I needed air in my rear tire. So we made a quick 1000 foot detour down a city street to a local gas station for air. Aired the tire and headed back to the trail only to be pulled over by the local police. He watched it all from a parking lot across the street. Long story short. He wanted us to lock our front end and take us into town to the PD. Mine wouldn't lock so we had to drive through town with the officer following us to the police station. My mother was the only parent home so she had to come and get us. We left the bikes at the PD until our fathers got home and could help us pick them up. Needless to say, neither father was very happy. I don't remember what our puishment was 40 years ago but I know we both learned our lesson.
