farmer 1,075 #1 Posted February 21, 2012 Hello all, I have just purchased a '73 Auto 12 with the k301s, it came with a silencer which had no baffles. The engine starts and runs well, from idle to max rpm. Air cleaner is there, and I've not touched the carb. So I bought a new silencer ( canister type, exits by the chaff screen ) Having installed it, I ran the engine at around half speed, but the silencer glows bright orange, so I shut the engine down. Now I know they get hot, but surly not that hot, without even a load. Can anyone me please.
sorekiwi 761 #2 Posted February 21, 2012 I've had the pipe into the muffler glowing before, but never the muffler itself. Lean fuel mixture or retarded timing can cause this.
P3x 56 #3 Posted February 21, 2012 Are you running it in full Afterburner? :)
farmer 1,075 #4 Posted February 23, 2012 The Afterburner has been turned off, following your advice Mike, I found the points gap out, set it at 0.20, adjusted the carb according to the manual. Having drove it around the yard for 15-20 mins all seems fine. Thanks for your help. :handgestures-thumbup:

Hmmm, from down where Rex is from I'd imagine setting it to 0.20" is pretty good by their standards.... feeler gauge ?!?! nah, maize stalk or sycamore twig usually works :ychain:
farmer 1,075 #7 Posted February 23, 2012 Ahh,........ that's why I couldn't get the cover back on. Mmm looks like I got the point in the wrong gap, I stand corrected. Looking foward to your next video Mark, what's it going to be called, "Wheel Horse traction, knowing your limitations".
