TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #2 Posted February 18, 2012 Sounds like it might be a bad spool (control) valve. Is it lowering under power ("down pressure"), or by gravity?
racinfool40 202 #3 Posted February 18, 2012 TT, It will lower-Extend the ram with force...But will not bring the ram back into the cylinder.. Mike
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #4 Posted February 18, 2012 Any history on this tractor? Is this a new issue?
racinfool40 202 #5 Posted February 18, 2012 Terry I just picked this tractor up hasn't ran in awhile..Got it runnin..Runs great engaged the trans and had a bad leak at the hydro valve so I shut it down the non-bolt side of the hydro valve were the hose attaches was stripped out replace this side and reinstalled on the tractor. topped of the hydro fluid (ATF) was about a half a guart low..started the tractor engaged the hydro no leaks.went to move the hydro control valve and it pushed the ram out but would not retract it???? If I crack open the back side hydro cyl. hose I can force them ram back.tighten the line and move lift valve and it will push the ram out again ... but no retracting of the ram..checked the cone valve and the valve that has the ball all looked clean and good..after talkin to a few other members I'm leaning towards the spool valve in the lift valve but wanted to be sure... them valve's on a C-161 are a pita!!!!! WheelHorseSteve 56 #6 Posted February 18, 2012 Can you post a picture showing where you have connected the hoses to the hydro pump? If the return isn't in the right spot this would happen (don't ask why I know this)
racinfool40 202 #7 Posted February 18, 2012 Steve, I thought of that also..I went as far as too switch the hose's at the pump and still had the same results. MIKE.
oldredrider 2,549 #8 Posted February 18, 2012 Shouldn't the C-161 use 10w30a motor oil? Not atf.
racinfool40 202 #9 Posted February 18, 2012 Paul, I thought the same thing..But after seein whats in some if the hydro's I have come across, some have ATF, some 10w30-10w40..The drive works great so I left it alone. I'm thinkin it's another one of those things that WH used what was on hand at the time..Plus I have no idea what the previous owners have done... MIKE.
