Big Jake 18 #1 Posted February 12, 2012 my 310-8 can someone tell me if it is a 8 or 10 pinion dif. Thanks
Sparky-(Admin) 21,405 #2 Posted February 12, 2012 Are the axles 1"? They probably are which tells me you have the 4 pinion rear and not an 8. The 10 was offered on the late 60's/early 70's machines like the Raider. Mike............

Duff 206 #5 Posted February 13, 2012 If it's a "stock" original 310-8, it'll have 1" axles and a four pinion diff. But like so may 'horses, it could have had some organ transplants along the way! Duff
kpinnc 12,506 #6 Posted February 13, 2012 There was a theory (rumor, urban legend, whatever) that said some of the 310-8 tractors had 4 pinions with 1-inch axles, but the axle carriers had the 4 additional holes to add 4 more pinions. Even the Toro MPV showed them that way, which may very well be where the story got it's start. I have never seen one myself, and I have opened several cases in the hunt for such a thing. More than likely- just as Duff said, you have 1 inch axles and a 4-pinion differential. Lighter duty than the 8-pinion, but still a very rugged unit. Unless you plan to pull stumps regularly with it, it should do anything you ask without breaking.
