Spray Paint

my 312-A was rotting when i started tearing it apart. I used Rustoleum Farm Equipment Paint (IH Red)

My pic at the left is what i started with

I just cleaned a hand full of parts at a time, and started primering and painting. The paint seemed to dry extremely slow and chip easy.

On a good day, it's a 10 footer that I'm currently fighting the urge to blow apart and redo everyday.

I do think I remember messing around with the seat pan at some point though.

Recently, I disovered a little issue with the dash while trying to clean it up for one of Terry's decals...so how long do you think it going to be before it gets restored again? LOL. :)

Nice looking tractors!!! I cant seem to get the whole rattle can thing down very well. I always get runs and such... Gusse I will stick with my devillbiss spray gun until I get better with the rattle cans. Any Tips?

....I did paint my plows with a spray turbine and HLVP gun from TIP Tools. They ain't cheap put you can spray anywhere you have electric, no contaminites or oil in the air plus the air is warmed which is nice for drying in a cooler shop. Plus you can dial the gun down to spray a tiny dot.I use it to spray stain on my 500" fence too. Works great and I can spray both sides ofthe fence in about 3 hrs. and use a little over a gallon of stain.

I tried to find it on the Eastwood site. Didn't see it. I clicked on the link and there it was. Mine has a longer hose and wheels which help alot when doing the fence. The last time I did the fence I put it in my dump cart and toted it around with the 704

I think it's the same or even better. There is no gunk or oil in the air that can get by a filter. Any moisture in the air is evaporated as the air is warmed. I've painted quite a few car parts with clear coat and outside of the normal dirt that's in the air I've gotten good results. Less overspray keeps the shop cleaner and I've been told by the pro painter at work that my fence looks fantastic. :)

hey maiden fan,im in ontario and up here thats all you get for that color unless you order a gallon,home depot,lowes,home fix up stores,wallmart,almost anywhere,and i agree thats its not the best paint,but it works and its economical,its good for show girls because they never get abused to wear the paint off,but i use it alot

Here is a Valspar IH red. Some of it is Tractor & Implement and some is Restoration Series. A Suburban 400.

Still not done but I am to where I can work on it again, thank goodness.

I am curious, what kind/color primer did you fellas use? I want to get my red to look nice and deep. Thinking about sunrise red to get a little more "pop" from the color then top it with some clear coat. Any thoughts?

Here's a Commando 800 I sprayed with Rustoleum Red. It amazed me how it turned out.

The type of primer depends on what paint you use. It's always best to use, under red (or any light color for that matter), a light colored primer from the same manufacturer and the same line of paint. The chemical properties (EG, the solvent base of both primer and top-coat) must match or you could cause yourself grief when you spray the top coat. Also, primer and paint are both just icing on the cake. The preparation work to the metal surface is key to any good paint job, and final 400 grit sanding preparation of the primed surfaces is just as important. Think "clean, clean, clean) If what's under the paint looks like crap, the whole job will look like crap. MHO

Heres a post I found from NetTractorTalk site with several PPG tractor makes paint codes. I think it would be more perminant to copy paste the whole list here not just a link but since Im a newbie I'll leave that to a senior member if they choose. Its rather long but very nice to have around. I noticed the wheel horse wheel paint codes are not listed? 

 Also Im not sure if everyones aware of this but in some automotive paint stores they'll color match by code or scan a painted piece either way and can make up rattle cans for you. It was 13.00 a can in my town {Evansville In} a few yrs back but Im not sure they do it anymore? About twice the amount of paint in a can than store bought rattles and its the original colors. Had a 69 Dodge Super Bee they matched perfect a few times. Matched the faded areas wonderful with scanner. On touch ups make them scan around the area to be painted to match best folks!!!!  Just dont scan the hood and paint a fender you know what I mean?    Call around your area???

Spray bombs.. Rustoleum red primer and Duplicolor High Heat Engine paint on the whole thing. This way the engine color matches.. The engine paint flows out nice, it seems to take a good long while to get hard. But if you are patient the results are good.
