can whlvr 993 #18 Posted February 12, 2012 just to throw this out there, because i have rattle canned lots of things it can get pricey,i suggest looking into sprayers,i know it means a compressor but there not too bad for a small one, once you have the gun,you can but the paint in quarts,or even gallons,i too use regal red and i can do a complete tractor with a quart,15 dollars, the last rattle i did was alot of cans at 6 bucks a can it pays to have a gun, they can be very useful and you can spray other things too
chesbaycruiser 82 #19 Posted February 12, 2012 Agreed Don. I've sprayed my share of things with rattle cans with pretty good results, but if you've got the option of spraying with a gun, it's the way to go--especially if you're spraying more than a few small pieces. On the flip side, if it's a small job, I'll skip the hassle of the paint mixing and gun cleanup and go with the can! Either way, as the photos here clearly show, you sure don't NEED a gun to get a nice paint job!
1maidenfan 202 #20 Posted February 12, 2012 just to throw this out there, because i have rattle canned lots of things it can get pricey,i suggest looking into sprayers,i know it means a compressor but there not too bad for a small one, once you have the gun,you can but the paint in quarts,or even gallons,i too use regal red and i can do a complete tractor with a quart,15 dollars, the last rattle i did was alot of cans at 6 bucks a can it pays to have a gun, they can be very useful and you can spray other things too Was reading your post and noticed you use the regal red paint, I also use it on my wheel horse tractors. Was wondering where you found it in the quart size? I buy mine from lowes and I don't believe I have ever seen it in the quart ? Thanks.
farmerall 23 #21 Posted February 12, 2012 Hey Farmerall, your on here!! Yep. I'm here lol. As far as paint like to use Rustoleum paint and primer. It seems to hold up pretty good and their primers make a good base.
Wheel Crazy 23 #22 Posted February 12, 2012 I have a small air compressor, I will have to invest in a spray gun! Here is a picture of what I want to restore. I can't tell if it has the original paint on it or not? I don't think it is because the outside of the hood is a different color the inside of the hood, but who knows? what do you guys think? Does it even need paint? lol More pictures before lights!
tgranthamfd 29 #23 Posted February 12, 2012 I think the paint looks great as is.
squonk 41,017 #24 Posted February 12, 2012 I use the cans because I don't want to rip the whole tractor apart to paint all of it. I do them in sections and don't want to have to clean the gun several times. I did paint my plows with a spray turbine and HLVP gun from TIP Tools. They ain't cheap put you can spray anywhere you have electric, no contaminites or oil in the air plus the air is warmed which is nice for drying in a cooler shop. Plus you can dial the gun down to spray a tiny dot.I use it to spray stain on my 500" fence too. Works great and I can spray both sides ofthe fence in about 3 hrs. and use a little over a gallon of stain. http://www.tptools.com/p/2994,59_Showtime-90-HVLP-Turbine-Unit-with-ProLine-Paint-Spray-Gun.html
