Plow modification for 1989 520HC

Recommended Posts

So as we all know the long frame WH plow rubs on the front tires on the 520 with the fordward swept axels. I know that I can buy an excllent extension kit for whatever price I can find it for. Well being one to look for a way to save a few bucks I streched the frame of the plow infront of the controls, that way I don't need the new handle, the lift/lower linkage, or the extension bracket on the rear of the plow frame...

Now if we get some snow I can try it out. I have pushed some gravel around with it so far so good.

Thanks BEN

AMC RULES

Looks good Ben, but I'm thinking those welds are gonna need to be reinforced with some overlapped metal for strength. :twocents-twocents:

Ben, I didnt think your machine had the swept front axle :scratchead: ? Or do you have more 520's than your telling us?

I think you'd have been better off fabing up the extension bracket and handle since you have the welder. That way you could easily remove the extension, etc to use the blade on a tractor without the swept forward axle. This would keep your blade stock. With your welding ability don't think you'd have much problem building and extension.

Well Mike I thought the 89 had the forward swept axels either way the plow was rubbing on the tires so something had to be done.

AMCrules yea I think some reinforcements may be needed but I'll wait and see how it works.

ThreeHorses I could have fabricated all three pieces of the extension kit but this was easier and by pushing the blade out 10" further it is easier to see, a big plus because if i do use it at all it's for the tight places that I can't get with the plow truck. If this was an older tractor and plow set up I would have been more concerned about keeping it stock, but I don't see why this plow would not fit on any other long frame tractor.

Thanks guys..............BEN

The 520HC has the foward swept axle the standard 520 in 88 and 89 does not.

Thanks Kelly, anymore helpful hints about the HC? Or perhaps a link? I've looked around and can't find too much about the 520-HC just the 520H.

Thanks BEN

I have an 88 520HC as well. It stands for hydro commercial. It is a little faster than the normal 520 and the dash is more basic. I really love the low center of gravity on mine. I run a 60 inch deck and my yard is uneven.
