Retired Wrencher 5,467 #1 Posted February 6, 2012 :USA: Is it necessary to grind a little of the bottom of the valve after you lap them in buy hand. Some one told I had to do this because you are taking stock off from the top. and can you use a hand grinder with a fine stone for this ?????? any info would be helpful. Gary B............... TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #2 Posted February 6, 2012 Grinding the stem tips is only necessary in engines without adjustable followers/lifters, but only if the lash/clearance is too tight. Good example here: http://www.wheelhors...dpost__p__89853 The stem tip really needs to be ground perfectly flat and 90 degrees to the stem. If you can't grind them on the correct machinery, it's best to file them by hand using a shaft collar as a guide.

Martin 2,132 #4 Posted February 6, 2012 I think the smaller kohlers are non adjustable. My k181 is non adjustable . All of my big block kohlers are adjustable though(k241 and up)
