wheelhoss 2 #1 Posted February 5, 2012 My k321 fuel pump keeps leaking oil from were it is bolted to the engine. I've got a electric fuel pump and a regulator. So can I block off were the manual fuel pump and put the electric fuel pump on. If so how much psi should I set the regulator.
Martin 2,133 #2 Posted February 5, 2012 tt posted some info recently about a block off plate for the engine. not really sure what psi would work best, but i wouldnt think you would want more than 3-4 psi, as gravity feed usually works good enough if the fuel line is routed accordingly. block off plate http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php/topic/31431-fuel-pump/page__view__findpost__p__266487 or you could fix the manual pump, that would be my solution. wheelhoss 2 #3 Posted February 5, 2012 My manual fuel pump has a new gasket on but it still leaks oil
Martin 2,133 #4 Posted February 5, 2012 are you sure its not coming from the pivot shaft area on the sides of the lower part of the pump?. . the pivot area is usually where ive found leaks. or maybe even where the two halves screw together. also check the gasket mounting surface on the pump, it could be warped. im not trying to sway you from installing an electric pump etc. but the manual pump is a good setup with a bit of tlc. TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #5 Posted February 5, 2012 Is it an aluminum or (replacement) plastic fuel pump?
wheelhoss 2 #6 Posted February 5, 2012 Its warped. Can I fix it. It is a aluminum pump
Martin 2,133 #7 Posted February 5, 2012 if you remove the pump arm, then get some 100 or 220 grit on a flat surface, and if its not too bad you should be able to get it back flat again. all the machined surfaces need to be flat to make it work and stop leaks. you could try on a flat surface with a hole in it for the arm. it would take longer as your range of motion is not as large for removing the high spots but at least you wouldnt need to remove the arm. gapper 22 #8 Posted February 17, 2012 Help, I have a K241S and think my fuel pump is not working. To tell you what i have done and i have a pic showing the set up. I took another tank and ran the fuel line to the carb. Holding that tank in the air so gravity could do its thing, i started the tractor (74 B-100). I took the fuel line from the tank mounted on the tractor and pinned it up so the gas would not run from gravity. I made sure the fuel shut off was turned on and ran the tractor. FIRST QUESTION, the fuel pump should be pushing fuel out the line when the tractor is running right? If so then the pump is not working. SECOND QUESTION, If it is not working, can i get a rebuild kit? There is a number in the fuel pump housing. A-235845. This is the original fuel pump to the best i can tell. It is not plastic. I cleaned around the pump so i could remove it later. Thanks for the help and part numbers if there are any. Rick
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #9 Posted February 18, 2012 Hey Rick...... The pump will work much better if it's installed right side up. :thumbs2:
gapper 22 #10 Posted February 18, 2012 Terry, You are saying i need to turn it 180Deg. So the arm might not be riding on the cam at all. If i look at an 8 hp kohler i have in the shed would that be the same? Thank you very much for the help. That is one of the hazards of getting something someone else worked on. Martin 2,133 #11 Posted February 18, 2012 yes you need to turn it 180. you need to feed the arm in first and as the pump goes up to the block, you will feel it riding on the cam lobe. both the 8 hp and this one should look the same from the outside, and mount the same way up, but the 8 should be a pulse pump which works off the crankcase pressure/vacuum to pump fuel and doesnt have an arm. Kelly 1,030 #12 Posted February 18, 2012 Martin, many 8hp fuel pumps have the arm but is not the same as a 10hp up engine, in fact most of the 8hp pumps I've pulled have the arm.
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #13 Posted February 18, 2012 @Rick: You will also need to make sure the hoses are correctly attached to the fuel pump. Most pumps are labeled "IN" and "OUT" where the fittings screw in and some had directional arrows. Because yours is upside down, the hoses might be backwards. gapper 22 #14 Posted February 18, 2012 WOW!!! What a deal. I am going to check this out VERY soon and see what is going on. When i change the pump the right way, It should pump fuel out the fuel line when running right? If it does not then i will need to rebuid it. Is there a rebuild kit for my pump? I think i will run home right now and have a look. Thanks for all the help to everyone!! Rick
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #15 Posted February 18, 2012 Kits are available, but I would flip the pump over and try it first.
gapper 22 #16 Posted February 18, 2012 THANK YOU ALL !!! I did flip the pump and boy does that make a differance. She is working great!!!
