Bodywork/Paint Help

Recommended Posts

Hodge71

I need and experts input. This is my first shot at body work and I have some questions. I did all the dolly and hammer work on my 18 auto hood. I primed, guidecoated, wetsanded, primed, reapeat...all day today to find any lowspots. Do I prime again now that I'm close enough to happy for me or is it going to make the finish less smooth for paint. Also, how many coats of paint on this thing? I dont want to wetsand through the red into grey primer when I try to knockdown any orangepeel i will probably have. I'm using Valspar spraybombs. Is it worth the extra cash for the restoration series for the hood and fenders, or is implement just fine?I have Implement and tractor paint for the frame, engine, tranny etc....Its going to be a working tractor and I want it nice but I will be used alot so it doesnt need to be rotisserie perfect.

Thanks in adavance guys....

Have used a little of both Valspar paints. Like the way they flow out and look.

For my money I would only use the Restoration Series on a trailer queen. :dunno:

Jeff,

I used Rustoleum Regal Red....a lot cheaper than Valspar and the Ace is at the bottom of the hill as opposed to the nearest Tractor supply in york or Carlisle. spray paint looks fine but of course it isnt hard like a car finish with hardener added.

I'm getting ready to do a whole tractor. Guess it depends on what you are looking for in the finished product. Personally I'm gonna buy a gallon of the Valspar at Tractor Supply for $35. I can put hardner in it, shoot it with a gun and hopefully will end up with a smooth hard finish. If you're just looking for a fresh looking 10 footer, I think spray bombs will do a good job.

I figure it will take me multiple cans to spray bomb it so money is not that big of an issue. With all the prep work you already did, it might be worth it :twocents-mytwocents:

You can get cheap gun at Harbor Freight if you don't have one.
