GT-14 modification

Hi, Was wondering if anybody has ever put an 8 speed transaxle

in a GT-14? Is this feasable? I use my gt with a front end loader

and was afraid this might be to hard on hydrostat axle. I know you would

have to fab some.

The general consensus that I've heard is that people prefer a hydro to an 8 speed when using a loader.

I'm not familiar with the GT14 transmission at all, but I dont really see why a hydro would be any weaker than an 8 speed. The parts list I just looked at showed a 10 pinion diff, it might be nice to change that to an 8 pinion, but I am not sure how easy that would be. In a manual box 10 pinion diffs normally have a long and a short axle as the diff is offset slightly. The IPL for the '72 GT14 I just looked at shows the same part # for both axles, so possibly they would work with the 8 pinion diff. :scratchead:

I've had 2 GT14s with FEL's. Currently I have a 69 GT14 with the OE loader which has been on for about 3 years with no issues. I sold the other one with a loader I fabed up myself in 03. In the 6 years, I moved about 600 ton of fill and about 200 ton of stone with it , then sold it to a neighbor 3years ago. He's still useing it today with no problems.

The Gt14 has the 10 pinion with a limited slip differential which is nice in the slippery stuff, the 8 pinions are open diffs.

If it was mine, I'd leave it alone.

Hi all, Thanks for replies. I guess I will just leave it the way it is. The gt-14 is really a good

work horse and does well with front loader. I was thinking manual trans would free up one hand

. It 's hard to steer, run the hydrualics and keep a hand on shifter all at same time.Again, thanks for

your replies.

Put a foot operated forward/reverse pedel on it.

The foot pedal idea sounds good kc9kas. Has anyone done this on a gt-14? Do they make a kit for this

to fit the gt-14, or is this something that needs to be fabricated? The foot pedal would be great so as to

have one hand to steer and one to operate the hydraulic levers of loader. Thanks. If there is a kit where

can one thesebe got and how much?

Personally, I don't know it there is a kit available for the GT-14. I know some one on here had one on a 5xx series tractor.

Maybe a stock one for another model could be fabed to work on the GT-14.

I too have a 69 GT-14 and need some of the 3 pt lift items and am looking for those parts. I would love to have a FEL for this machine.
