H60 or HH60? Need to know about rebuild kit. Help!

Recommended Posts

I think the H60 is aluminum bore and I think the HH60 has a sleeve. I can get a rebuild kit for the HH60, but is the H60 the same internal parts? Where can I get oversized piston and valves? I have a 654, got it off of the original owner and he said it was all original. Tore the motor apart and it has a sleeve, but the side cover says H60 so what do I have? Would appreciate help.

Thanks

From my experience with Tecumseh engines, the H series is an aluminum block/aluminum bore, the HM series is an aluminum block/iron sleeve bore, and the HH series is an iron block/bore.

The original engine for your 654 should be an all-aluminum H-60.

Are you able to take / post pictures? :confusion-shrug:

Fortunately (for me!!) its been a while since I looked at a Tecumseh...

I cant help you with the internals off the top of my head, but I can tell you the H60 is an aluminum block engine and an HH60 is a cast iron block.

I'm not sure about the bore on the H60 - I am thinking it has a cast iron sleeve.

H60 on the left, HH60 on the right:

EDIT: Go with what Terry said about the bore, he's right 99.99999% of the time!!

The pics that are posted, the one on the left is my block. It is all aluminium with a sleeve and it has the fuel pump on the block and electric start. Still not sure what it is or where to get the parts to rebuild it. Thanks for the help.

That white engine on the left is an H60 Spec.75009 from my '63 Lawn Ranger.

I just went out to the shed and stuck a magnet in the bore - it does have a cast iron sleeve.

I havent tried to buy Tecumseh parts for a few years, but I assume there must be rebuild stuff still available. There were thousands of H60's made. There is a rebuild kit on ebay right now, but its for a std. bore size

Yeah, I saw it on Ebay, but I am going to need to bore my motor and will need an oversized piston. Don't know if I can get one from Wiseco or where I should look. Maybe LA sleeve might make a standard sleeve?

Yeah, the one on Ebay is for an HH60 and that's why i was trying to figure out what I had so i could order the parts. It looks like from what the last guy said, that I have an H60 so does anyone know if the HH60 parts will fit in the H60? Thanks everyone for the help. Any info would be appreciated.

H60 and HH60 take the same kit. Just make sure to get non chrome rings!! It will mess up an aluminum block engine. Terry you are right about the engines. I can probably get a rebuild kit for this engine as well how far over STD. size are you going?

From my Tecumseh Svc Manual and from the engine manual that came with my L-107 (H60 -75118f).

HM is horizontal shaft medium frame. HHM is horizontal heavy duty(cast iron) medium frame.

H60 has aluminum alloy die casting with INTEGRALLY CAST ALLOY IRON SLEEVE (Caps are from the manual).

HH60 had Cast Iron cylinder

HM engiens though came with cast iron sleeve. in the H sieres you can get aluminum bore or cast iron sleeve. his should be an H60 unless the engine has bee replaced. Yes i can get parts for the H60 and HH60.

The older h60's did not have the option of a cast iron sleeve. Then later on they came out with the cast iron sleeve for aluminum blocks. I am not sure what year they started sleeving the aluminum blocks. If you give me your modle and sieral number ect. I can get the parts for you.
