Not my usual type of post

Recommended Posts

rmaynard

This is not my usual type of post, but this is not a usual occurrence.

This Wednesday, January 18th, at 6 a.m., my 8 year old grandson will be undergoing open heart surgery to repair a defective mitral valve. He has had this condition since birth, but it has gotten worse in the last couple of months.

I am not the kind of person that ever asks for things, but if you are so inclined, your prayers will be welcomed.

Ryan is my first grandchild, and my little helper when I am working on the horses.

We know that he will be in the best of hands at Johns Hopkins Hospital, but I am sick just thinking about the 6 weeks of recovery that he has ahead of him.

My family will be praying for Ryan and all his family as well. I have only one grandchild ( a grand daughter ) I worry when she just gets a cold. I can't even begin to imagine how you must feel. I hope it will bring some comfort to you knowing that Ryan will have a lot of prayers sent on his behalf. Please keep us posted on his condition.

He looks like quite a trooper on that tractor and it is amazing how much youngsters can go through. I do believe you are having a tough time just knowing what he will be going through and you seem to be a great Grand Parent Bob! Best wishes that everything goes well.-Dennis

Bob

I had that surgery done (I assuming that the valve will be replaced, if a valve repair is the path forward that is even better) 13+ years ago along with a replacement of the aortic valve -- Anyway the valve replacement surgery is major but pretty common and holds the promise of a long and productive life after -- I keep asking my cardioligist how long the valves are good for and he keeps telling me that something else is going to do me in -- Good luck to your grandson -- He is at a great hospital -- Prayers to him and your family
