rmaynard 15,531 #1 Posted January 16, 2012 This is not my usual type of post, but this is not a usual occurrence. This Wednesday, January 18th, at 6 a.m., my 8 year old grandson will be undergoing open heart surgery to repair a defective mitral valve. He has had this condition since birth, but it has gotten worse in the last couple of months. I am not the kind of person that ever asks for things, but if you are so inclined, your prayers will be welcomed. Ryan is my first grandchild, and my little helper when I am working on the horses. We know that he will be in the best of hands at Johns Hopkins Hospital, but I am sick just thinking about the 6 weeks of recovery that he has ahead of him. dcrage 628 #19 Posted January 16, 2012 Bob I had that surgery done (I assuming that the valve will be replaced, if a valve repair is the path forward that is even better) 13+ years ago along with a replacement of the aortic valve -- Anyway the valve replacement surgery is major but pretty common and holds the promise of a long and productive life after -- I keep asking my cardioligist how long the valves are good for and he keeps telling me that something else is going to do me in -- Good luck to your grandson -- He is at a great hospital -- Prayers to him and your family
