Hodge71 664 #2 Posted January 13, 2012 Awesome tractor!!! The memories that brings back. I had a 50 8n with the side mount distributor. I used it to clear all the logs off my lot when I built my house. I then redid it and sold it for a John Deere. It was the biggest mistake I ever made. I truly miss it. It never let me down no matter how cold out or what I asked it to do, even with only 6 volts

Rollerman 290 #4 Posted January 13, 2012 I had a 50 front mount distributor 8N last year. Pretty neat old tractors, but lack of live hydraulics & PTO can be a pain with them. Does yours have the Sherman auxiliary trans?
CTPATRIOT 12 #5 Posted January 13, 2012 This tractor sat in the weeds for 3 1/2 yrs.,i just got her running and fully serviced.I also have a "47 2N i plan to restore someday.
SousaKerry 501 #6 Posted January 13, 2012 Do I spy a 12v conversion on that beastie?? I also agree that the lack of a a live PTO and hydraulic was a major hindrance to these older Fords but for sheer longevity you can't beat em. Dad is still going strong with his pair of 960's and his 53' NAA, both direct decendents of the N series. NAA introduced the overhead valve engine and the 960's feature live pto(two stage clutch) and hydraulics with power steering and row crop configuration with 5 speed transmissions. Dad's NAA also features the 3 speed front end and 2 speed rear end. that darn thing will do 25 MPH and is also the slowest tractor I have ever seen that wasn't hydro

Wheel-N-It 2,968 #8 Posted February 15, 2012 I noticed the 12 conversion too. I hope you used the delco one wire altenator with the internal regulator and flat belt pulley so you can use an original style belt. I had a 1948 8n for about ten years. They are good machines. tbbahner 27 #12 Posted February 17, 2012 Those old 8N's are tough. Just like WH and Fergusons, they just don't die. Hey Neil, glad to see another Ferguson owner. I have a few myself. Tom B
