mrc 852 #1 Posted January 10, 2012 hi guys, here is a few pics of my original wh tractor. i call it "old faithful" its a 1985 416-8 with the kohler engine. it was not pretty when i bought it. a couple years after i bought it i added a porch onto my house. the base of the porch is concrete. there is a concrete footing 4 feet in the ground. 4 foot concrete frost wall. the middle and outside get backfilled, and then a concrete cap is poured on top. my concrete contractor said " you'll kill that lawnmower backfilling that" i then said "its a wheelhorse garden tractor!!! " a couple years after the porch project i added onto my garage. the garage was a 2 car detached garage originally. i built a third bay and attached it to the house. my concrete contractor was back and i said the old wh tractor is like the energizer bunny, "still going" he was amazed! i backfilled the garage addition with the 416 as well. a couple years after the garage project i added a wing to my house for my elderly parnets to live in. we hoisted the 416 up with a backhoe and lowered it into the cellar hole to spread crushed stone. it plows snow every storm. 500' of city treebelt sidewalk and pushes snow down my driveway. i then push the big pile off the driveway with my 79 chevy K20 plow truck. the K20 is also my wheelhorse hauler. this past summer my buddy mark painted the tractor sheetmetal. he told me he felt like rick from the tv series american restoration! C-85 708 #4 Posted January 10, 2012 Hi MRC, These are great pictures, I enjoyed the red stuff and that good old Chevy, that is the same thing I learned to drive on. I was wondering what the black frame in the front tach omatic was for. It looks like a limit to keep the plow from only going down so far, or to support the plow from sideways blows? I'd never seen this before, I have a C-series with a plow and have never thought of doing this, so I'm hoping you can tell the benefits to this and what it's used for. I AM NOT COMPLAINING THOUGH! my plow would sometimes rub on the front wheels when angled. i saw another member here who had a side to side limiter some time ago. it was better than mine. it was a flat plate welded to the top of the plow frame. it had a round hole in it. there was a large diameter (looked like 1 inch or so) rod coming straight down from the front tach-a-matic. this rod went thru the hole in the plate. i set out to make that and ended up with what i got. mine has some threaded rod underneath with nuts to prevent the legs from spreading. hydro14, no hour meter on the 1985 416. if i had to guess i would say a lot! sparky, i have the dash decal but, i do not like it. its a bunch of do's and don'ts. i have a patriotic wheelhorse decal coming from vinylguy soon that might go there. or i might just leave it the way it is. thanks for looking. mike in mass. boatman 3 #17 Posted January 17, 2012 Hi there, Very nice looking 416-8. I have one just like it that I have restored with ag tires on rear and tri ribs on front. Use it strictly in the garden with moldboard plow, disc, spring tooth harrow, and tiller. These are great working machines. Wheel-N-It 2,969 #18 Posted January 18, 2012 The 416 looks great! Owning a 416 ( that looks as good as yours ) is definetly on my bucket list. The old Chevy workhorse is cool too. I have a 1974 C-65 short bed dump with the 427 big block / high deck motor that would make a good plow truck if we ever got enough snow to plow around here. It has only 71,000 original miles. I love the truck but hate the fuel consumption. 850CFM Holley Carbs suck alot of gasoline. LOL !!! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

MRC I happened on your post and enjoyed the pictures of your tractors. I think I have an idea for the dash maintenance decal that you may like. will try to get the design to you tomorrow. Was there a problem with the right side hood decal? It appears that about 3 inches of the silver gray pin stripe is missing. I will replace it if you need it. mrc 852 #20 Posted January 19, 2012 hi terry, i can't wait to see the patriotic dash decal you are designing for my 416! as far as the hood decals go i will say you have a keen eye. i screwed up applying the hood decals. i installed the front hood decal first and i had it a bit too low. then i tried to match up the side hood decals. the problem was i was also trying to keep the side decal level. at the end the side decals were running into the small bracket for the rubber hold down straps. i trimmed off some of the decal and problem solved. next time i'll know to install them a little higher. thanks for the offer to send another set but, i'm happy with how it turned out. very nice of you to offer though!!! my 416 looked so bad for so long i'm thrilled every time i look at it in the garage now. regards. mike in mass. I've had people tell me I have to be abusing them.... then I drive the tractor out of the barn and they just look on in disbelief. I've converted several people this way! The 416 looks great! THANK YOU......YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!! i'll check my private email and/or call you for my order. jusjeepn your ploside to side limiter is very close to the one i was trying to build. mine is o.k. but, when its warmer i'm going to rebuild mine to resemble your idea which is better. thanks for the pics. mike in mass.
