Been there, done that. :ychain:

From the RedSquare closet:

Through some "no money involved" trading, I ended up with most of another S-17 about a month ago:

No offense, but I'll stick with Wheel Horses. :thumbs2:

There is a guy I work with that has a Speedex 1632. I've been trying to get him to sell it to me for seven yrs. now with no luck. Looks like you have a nice collection there!

@HorseNUT: don't take my previous post the wrong way...... I've actually followed your posts on GTTalk and was amazed that you ended up with such a variety of machines from the same deal.

They are definitely nice tractors. :handgestures-thumbup:

@amcrules00

Speedex was created by Harold Pond (Elmer's brother). www.speedextractorinformation.com/

:thanks: Thanks for the link Doc, good read, some interesting :wh: laid out there.

Suprised we don't have a thread dovoted to the Ponds story, and or Wheelhorse's place in history here on the forum. :scratchead:

Sure wish we did though. :eusa-think:

It's been discussed here in the past & a great idea IMOP.

The Wikipedia page explanation is wrong...Martino's book has a good explanation, but we really can't copy & paste it here.

I'm a horrible story teller & mine would probably read alot like Martino's book with more "and's, but's & though's". :hide:

Not sure if my web searching methods are just plain pathetic or what, but to date, Wikipedia is the only on-line source for Wheelhorse that I've stumbled across. IMHO, we need an accurate representation of :wh: history in a thread, or in a pinned topic available for our members here on the forum. How are we going to keep the future of our hobby alive if we've all but forgotten it's history? :scratchead: Is there anyone with connections to Mike Martino who could approach him with this thought, and least get him on board with the idea of starting a resource available for members here on the forum? :dunno:

Thanks to all for the responses...When I bought the Torq (Very Rare 1974 model 'only 4 were made') I had no idea that this hobby would be so addicting. I took some calls from some collectors a couple of guys came over to my house to see it. That was when I realized 'hey my dads Wheelhorse is quite the tractor too' so I got it going and viola...found this forum 'in its old state' and made a few inquiries etc...But the way I understand the story was the 'Pond' brothers had a pretty heated argument ' it wasn't over color' and at the time they were both producing Speedexes...well the 'brighter' of the 2 boys was Elmer, I am not sure if the argument was over adaptations or something but it is told the argument was over 'tractors'...so Elmer says I'll show you and moved to South Bend, and the rest is history...I am not sure how accurate that is but 'sounds good'...and Speedexes were made before the Wheel Horse - so the logic is there...

If you guys included Speedexes that would be KILLER...the speedex site is loaded with info ...but is more primitive than the tractors... thanks for everyone's input. was nice to logon and see so many responses...

Speedexes the only thing speedy about them is the name, they are slow yet powerful machines...as you saw in the video they do have a nice engine setup...B&S...

I would too were I you, that one is missing an engine...LOL yes Wheel Horses are much more refined...I don't mean less heavy duty, just a much more refined machine. Don't forget I have a Whorse too! And in spite of my growing Case collection the Whorse will always hold a place dear to my heart. I was cutting grass and tilling when I was a kid...

The speedex deal I got was just awesome Some 12 tractors most running, with decks plows, implements, blades extra engines, sickle blades extra parts ...for $3k that was $250 per tractor...how do you pass up something like that? Then there are the implements...just a stunning deal! This was right after I got my first S24 which I paid $500 for it...
