RJ 58 Pulley Sizes

Recommended Posts

multihobbyguy

I was wondering if anyone knew offhand what size the engine pulley and transmission pulley is supposed to be on a RJ 58? Also what the diameter of the idler pulley is on a RJ 58. The RJ came with no engine, no idler and a incorrect transmission pulley. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris.

Not sure about trans or idler, but the drive one is 2 1/2" O.D. and fits a 3/4" shaft with a 3/16" Keyway. not 100% sure if thats correct, someone please double check me.

Engine pulley is: 2 1/4" diameter, for 3/4" shaft, 3/16" keyway

Idler pulley is: 2" diameter

Tranny pulley is: 4" diameter, for 3/4" shaft, 3/16" keyway

Thanks for the responses. I found the pulleys in the sizes listed and my father got to take it for a ride. Thanks again, Chris.

Looks like you did a fine job. Just make a couple steel rod belt puckers until you fins a belt guard and it'll shift without gear clash.

Thanks, I will let my father know. The belt was really loose and slipped quite a bit.

Ken,

I don't see a response so I'll chime in.

You need a cloth covered belt I've been told here. 29" And see above and make sure your pulley sizes are correct.

I've got the opposite problem.  I've got everything in the correct sizes but little forward motion with tranny engaged.

Could be the k91 came off of some other piece of equipment but who knows.

I'm using a 3.5" drive pulley just to make the thing move.

Kenjets,

I know it's 2 years later but how did you resolve your issue?

I took mine apart restored it put it back together and now I've got your issue.  Grinding gears because belt is turning.

All my pulleys and belt are correct.

land @Kenjets if you are still here… do you have the belt guard on?  That is an important part of the clutch!

You should be pleasantly surprised!  When the belt is slack, it drags on the guard and stops.

Oh is that how it's supposed to work. Who knew. Well I guess almost everyone here.

Next issue.   Roll pin for the clutch arm is mia so the idler pulley arm is moving at will.

Threw in a cotter pin for now.  It seems to be holding.

Any idea how long is that spacer supposed to be for the belt guard - OM doesn't say.

And how important is it anyway.

So NEVER use a cotter pin in place of a roll pin. Sheered of almost immediately and had to punch it out. Got lucky.

Found the correct roll pin in the garage.

Also, Success! after I got the correct woodruff key in the transmission pulley - She jumped in the air.

Just the exhaust guard now and figuring out the belt guard so the bolt doesn't wiggle out.

Cut some tube or buy spacers. 1 3/8" to 1 1/2" long

I've done them with threaded rod and nuts too so the studs stay in place when removing the guard.

Hey Pullstart and Wallfish... thanks so much for the help.  A few minor adjustments and the threaded rod is working just like it should.

And the diagram made it so much easier than trying to "see" it in my head. Really appreciate you taking the time.
