TT's next project! (more or less)

That's nothing out of the ordinary, Mike. :confusion-shrug:

I've put two tractors together pre-RedSquare and two since I've joined - and they're all on here somewhere.

Most everything else I work on is not worthy of posting about. :hilarious:

Maybe this is the new and improved TT since the elective surgery was completed? :scratchead:

I would rather think that it's due to 50-plus degree temperatures allowing me to venture out to an unheated shop and use wrenches without having them freeze fast to my hands. ;)

Technically I'm not stealing your idea though some may think it is but I have been debating building a similiar style tractor to this myself. I've been coming up with parts to build a narrow front end alot like yours. That is just an awesome looking tracto! A buddy of mine brought up the round fenders about a month ago...I just need to find a set to get that part going. Still kicking alot of ideas on the frontend though. I think I like the looks of that. Very different, andnothing against your sweet looking tractor but I dont want to clone it! Good luck with your project. Im sure it will be top notch when youre done!

Narrow front ends have been around since early in the last century, so I don't think you need to be concerned about stealing my idea. :ychain:

I built my narrow-front Charger in 2006, after attempting a narrow-front on an S-18 Speedex a few years prior. Somewhere in between, I ran across one at a show that used roller chain & sprockets for the steering - which was my stumbling block with the Speedex. I wanted the front wheels to turn as close to sideways as possible, and using drag link-style steering would barely allow for 90 degrees of total rotation.

It took a few months of internet shopping to find everything I needed to incorporate the reduction cluster sprocket so the steering wasn't too quick, and thanks to the roller chain design, my Charger has infinite rotation at the front wheels and steers very easy.

It was destined to have round fenders but they wouldn't have looked right with the hydro, so I installed the earlier narrow rear fender and traded the full footrests for the stirrups.

The Speedex S-18 attempt must have been closer to the turn of the century......

I found a real picture (not digital) of it while digging through some stuff this morning.

Yesterday was a hack/cut/chop session with a pair of hoodstands.

The back section of a 633 part:

Was introduced to the front section from a 655:

So now it looks like this:

The hood is now level, but the upper steering shaft is still off. It still has those dorky little front tires too:

Today's activities consisted of stripping another parts tractor and getting the front axle changed back to normal in this tractor.

I was also able to get a K-181 under the hood just to see what it will look like.

Here's where I left off:

Looking good there TT

One question, why is the motor so far forward? Any reasoning? Looks like you could fit a full size truck battery in there now LOL

Also, any plans for hydro equipment? Or strictly manual on this sucka?

The engine was just sitting on there, but I'm still going to keep it as far forward as possible for nose weight.

The mid lift will be of the "armstrong" variety, but I have not ruled out the future installation of a hydraulic rear lift. Should that happen, that "extra" space between the engine and the battery tray is the perfect location for a small pump.

I like where your going with this project Terry, those rear fenders look cool

I was going to say it needs a bigger engine to fill that gap under the hood... But hydraulic pump would fill the gap just fine :)

Well........... needless to say, this project is currently at a standstill due to mother nature turning down the thermostat, and a little "government project" in the shape of a 9N Ford that's using up all of my time at the shop where I work.

I did manage to tote the hoodstand pieces along and introduced them to the welder:

Doubtful if any more progress will be made until spring. :eusa-whistle:

Looks good...I love the round hood/fenders, but I think the square hoods are growing on me, I need to get going on mine. It will almost be a twin to yours, hood is raised more to clear the deisel, but more or less the same....
