Chart for Trans-axles, Tranny's

Recommended Posts

tractorbeast

I have used the Wheel Horse master model list as a very good reference. Its lists the trans axle by Mfg. Is there a chart/list that breaks down the trans axles by trans Mfg., Model Number of trans, years installed, # of speeds, etc.? I know I would find it very helpful if someone has this type of list. Thanks for looking and Happy New years to all.

Sorry, I guess I didnt look far enough to the right side of the chart-it does list the trans model.

Well I have yet to find a list of what is exactly in each trans.. And if you think about it.. The list would be quite extensive..with all the different trans variations out there. trans Numbers would change if it had a different shifter installed as with the different differentials-axles diameter-axle length- wether the case was machined for 1"axles or 1-1/8 axles-were the brake shaft mounted and so on..also wether it's a 3-speed 4-speed 6-speed 8-speed and then you throw in the hydro's...It's enough to make your head spin!!! Believe me!!! I have tried and have a short list started on just the one's I have came across..So If any one has one I would Love to see it!! :scratchead:

The "Wheelhorse By The Years" chart has the transmission model # listed for all the tractors. Its available here:

Unless you are TT, you will then have to refer to your Unidrive manual to see exactly which model this is, but at least it's a start.

To make matters worse, Uni-Drives have no identification numbers/tags, etc.

If it's not the original tranz, there's nothing left on the tractor for proper identification, or it's just the tranz by itself, you might have a really hard time figuring out exactly what it is. (aside from those that are uniquely obvious)

Wow!! Wonder why WH didn't put ID numbers on the transmissions? :confusion-shrug: Don't seem like it would have been that big of a deal. Good thing we have TT on here. :hide: Thanks Terry for all the help you've given me. :thumbs2:

The hydros often have a tag on the pump... I know my former and "new" one do to make it obvious what they are. Much like the tractor tags though, these could be lost over the years

But - the tag identifies the hydro unit, not the Uni-Drive assembly.

Depending on age & application, models with the Sundstrand hydro could have a bevel gear, 10 pinion, or 8 pinion differential, all with 1 1/8" axles.

A recent "discovery" while investigating ground speeds on certain Eaton 1100 equipped machines showed tooth count changes in the reduction gearing within the tranz case. Can you tell which one it is from the outside?........ I'm pretty sure that answer is "nope".

I'm not saying that they are impossible to tell apart, but it would have been so much easier if there was an ID tag.

So, a drag race, right?

You wouldn't happen to have a video handy, would you? A wheelie or two would be nice.

No racing this time....... just a little time spent going through the manuals, brochures, etc.
