TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #2 Posted December 31, 2011 I can tell you that it's the same as an 855, just one year newer. They look like this when they have an engine (minus the boat seat): I presume you know the basics - like 8hp / electric start / 3 speed / 1966 / short frame..... What else do you need to know? :confusion-shrug:
fourwheels0 191 #3 Posted December 31, 2011 tt thanks for the pics. what about the electrical system?. could i just drop in a newer 8hp kohler or would i need to change out the wiring. i'm not sure what i'm gonna do with yet. i got it in a package deal so i'll see when i pick them up. TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #4 Posted December 31, 2011 If by "newer 8hp Kohler" you mean one with a gear-drive starter, you will need to use a smaller motorcycle-type battery instead of the standard U1 series of L&G batteries. 1972 & later models that used the K-181 Kohler engine had two inches (or four inches, depending on the model) added to the frame/hood and the engine was also moved forward. This allowed a U1 battery to fit between the steering components and the starter motor.
fourwheels0 191 #5 Posted January 1, 2012 ok thanks TT. yes i was thinking about the newer gear-drive starter engines. maybe i'll see if i can find a good engine to put in it and use it for hauling stuff around.
Retired Wrencher 5,329 #6 Posted January 1, 2012 :USA: 4/wheels nice score this tractor only has three wries of the key it is a simple set up.and the key has screws to hold the wires in place. if u do up date u may have to change the key? there is allways those motors on e-bay I have seen them on there all the time.I think it would be nice if u can keep it original. I wish u good luck with this project. and HAPPY NEW YEAR. Gary B...........
