Making a tool box for 400

Can anyone tell me the dimensions/measurements of the tool box for a suburban 400, I need to make one.

Thanks to Buckrancher for the help on my last question on fender compatibility.

Also I have the original 4hp Kohler engine that is in really bad shape, but if someone can use it or parts from it let me know. It will only cost shipping otherwise it will be trash eventually. I can get pictures if needed.

I can measure up the one on my 33E Lawn Ranger tomorrow, I am almost positive that it is the same, although I havent been able to find a part # for the one on the Suburban.

The LR tool box is the same demensions. The only difference between the LR tool and the Suburban tool box is, the LR tool box does not have the rear cut-out for the Suburban's lift cable and hitch arm clearance.

OK, here is some dimensions and pic's. Let me know if you want more detail, I didnt want to take the seat off so It was a little hard to get good shots.

Measurements were taken with a tape measure, except for the metal gauge which was with a dial caliper. I guess its 14 gauge steel, measured just under .080" with the thickness of the paint.

14" wide (outside to outside)

8 1/4" long (outside to outside)

3 1/4" deep (outside face of bottom to top edge)

The return edge/flange/ is on the side pieces and spot welded to the front and back to hold the thing together. They are 1/2" long. Best seen in the B&W photo.

The cutout for the seat spring in the front face is 3 1/4" long and 1 3/8" high, centred across the box (obviously) and the bottom edge of this hole is 1" up from the bottom of the box.

The hole for the rearmost seat spring bolt is 2 3/4" from the back face.

I changed one picture to black and white because it showed some detail better

I thought I had a set of fenders lying around here somewhere, but I'm damned if I can find them now. Maybe I let them go when I sold my RJ. If I come across them, I will let you know.

Man that’s just what I needed, I cant thank you guys enough. I couldn’t build this thing with out this site and all of the members. I’m going to try to put pictures of the engine that I don’t need, I hate to see it go to waste. Thanks again

I like to keep these kind of motors for parts. Mamely the carb, it that Carter N is not all rotted up, its worth keeping.

I could definitely use the air breather off of your motor for my original 4hp Kohler that I am trying to save.
