trans gaskets

Recommended Posts

Hi, Just aquired a 1960 550 Suburban. Restoration in process. I need gaskets for the trans. Are these available or do I need to custom cut them? Also, dont know yet if I can re-build the Lausen engine. Is there a known engine that will fit in tractor.

Hi there newbie, keep an eye out for responses. Probably a busy day for most. There are plenty of guys that will help you out with your questions. Give them some time. Too old of a tractor for me to give any help.

Merry Christmas.....and welcome!!

I think the gasket is no longer available, you can use Permatex gasket maker or Yamaha has yamabond I've heard is pretty good or you can make the gaskets. Welcome to Redsquare! :text-merryxmas:

I take it that this also applies to the RJ transmissions as well? Since they are almost identical if I recall correctly. I have to rebuild the one on my RJ-58, and would like new gaskets if they are still made.

Thanks!

There is a guy on ebay that sells the gaskets he makes every so often. I bought a set to copy but haven't got around to it.

Keeping the original H55 motor, if possible, would be the way to go. They are getting harder to find. If you do need a replacement then a Tecumseh H60 is the closest thing and much more plentiful.

Thanks for the input. I got anxious, bought and cut my own gaskets. Worked out well. Thanks to all responses!!

3M RV sealant is what I would use on the transmission.

I just ordered seals and the gaskets for my 400 Suburban from (Killians Hardware) in NC. Phone# 828-256-2147, howie_1425@yahoo.com . I hope they are right if you wait a week I can let you know. It took me a while to find some one that had them.
