Ishman

Hey TT, in my original post you were asking about my Fairlane. It is a 1966 GTA I purchased about 12 years ago. I always told the wife if I ever came across one, it was coming home with me. It is an original southwestern rust free specimen, original big block 390 FE motor that I have "warmed up" a bit. It has a 428 Police Interceptor intake with a 750 Demon carb, a custom grind solid lifter cam with Erson roller rockers installed in Cobra Jet heads. The trans is the stock C6 with a 2800 rpm stall converter, a 350:1, 9 inch rear end with a Detroit locker posi unit. It is a great car, and it has great manners in the parking lot on cruse night. In the last year and a half it has ha every nut and bolt removed and put on the rotissire to paint the top as well as the bottom I had the intstrument panel restored, I restored the seats myself, I installed new door panels, carpet, arm rests, head liner and interior lights. I also installed a hidden stereo unit in the trunk and have a new set of Ford Magnum 500 wheel's and Cooper Cobra tires ready to be installed when finnished. All the pictures are before the restoration. Before that, it always was a "10 footer".

looks great! I sold my 69 RS Camaro 327 after I joined the Army back in 83. at the time it was the right thing to do to take care of my wife and young kids. prices are out of control on classic cars now.

Terry had Carpal tunnel surgery, today I think he should be able to use the other hand (somehow that doesnt sound right)

That 69 RS would cost quite a few more bucks to replace these days. What a great car. You gotta do what you gotta do.

Very nice, I'm a boby man and I know how much work it is going thought right now.

I had a 69 Torino GT with a 428 CJ with the drag pack opition, 56,000 orig miles sold it after losing my job, wish I had it back now 25 years later.

sad to say but as time moves on, stuff that isnt being made anymore, wether its classic cars or WH's disappears...more and more stuff is parted out and soon, there is a couple of museum pieces left and thats it. especially tractors and cars, equipment made to do a job..not like those damn Hummels or Lladros on the shelf. don't ask!

That is the one thing I would not try is body and paint, not on a scale like a car. I will give these little tractors a try, the WH 702 that I just picked up and the 66 JD 110 I bought late this Summer are jobs that I dont mind tackling.

That is one sweet ride Ishman. a few years back I had a numbers matching 66 Stingray 327 w/ the 4 speed...loved that car and was perfect!!!.. I would post pics of it but the only ones I have left are after the guy hit me doing 70 miles an hour when the fuel pump went out. Since then I am pretty much out of the muscle car world as far as owning. DOESNT MEAN I CANT LOOK THOUGH, and yours is a gem brother. Thanks for posting!!!

Ishman, that's a gorgeous Fairlane. I love that body style on those old Fords. Back when I was in high school, a guy in my neighborhood I grew up in had a '67 Fairlane, black with white vinyl top and red interior and a 289 w/ automatic. One day he had a 'for sale' sign in it, and I tried to be the first in my neighborhood before all my other buddies got a shot at buying it. We all drooled over it everytime he drove by with the dual glasspacks. Anyways, I drove it to my house for a test drive and fell in love with it. Unfortunately, my mother told me that my grades were not good enough to have a car and I would have to pass on the purchase. My best bud ended up getting it and I got to ride in it everyday to school and back anyways. He ended up buying another one and raced them both for a few years at US131 Dragway in Martin, MI.. Good memories... :)

Thanks for the great posts gentlemen, I am very happy that I found it and had the wherewithal to bring her back up to shape.

As stated, classic cars are just so expensive these days for anything with a pedigree and/or those perfect specimens that can be restored by a guy who doesn't have a ton of fabrication experience. I think the Fairlane will be my last car project for a while. it is plenty enough car for me and the mrs. right now. Plus, these little tractors are a perfect fill in. When we were young, my brother and I would get to spend one summer weekend every year at the Threshers Convention in Wauseon OH. What a great place for a young gearhead that was one of the funnest times of my year. I will check out the Cool Rides Website "Rooster", sounds pretty cool.
