RJ Tire Question

Recommended Posts

71_Bronco

So I have been searching the site and other sites (MikesRJ's restoration site as well) and I cannot seem to find information on the correct tires for the RJ-58. If you look at the tires (both front and rear) on mine vs the ones on MikesRJ, you can see two different sets. Are both correct? One more-so then the other?

Also, when looking at tires (new ones) I see that 6x12's (for the rear) are still pretty common. For the fronts though, I see allot of 4.80x8 and also 4x8's. Are these one-in-the-same? Or 2 different sizes? And if they are different, are they interchangeable?

The vast majority of RJs had Ag tires (like Mike's) in the rear but some did come with a turf tire tread (just not that common). The style turf tread on yours is non-original. I have found that the best price for 6-12 Ags tire is through Dandy Sales in Monson MA. You can google Dandy Sales for the web-site, the owner is Jim Haynes. A 4.80x8 or 4x8 will work. The difficult part is finding 4-8 tire with a tread pattern that is close to the original RJ. During 2011 I know Jim was working on a mold for a 4-8 tire that is almost dead-on to the original RJ front (tread pattern). The tire should be in production by now. You will find that most replace the frontire with a 4-8 tri-bar tire.

Sweet, thanks for the great info Vin.

I actually came across the Carlisle "Stud" tire and really like it. Was thinking about using them for the front, and then ags in the back, when it comes time for that.

I will give Jim at Dandy Sales a call and see what the story is on the tires. Thanks!

Nick, I do like that stud tire and think it would look good with an Ag in the rear. You may have to leave Jim a message but he will call you back. He also has his email addy on the web-site. He specializes in Panzer tractors and welcomes you to come pic the tires up to save on shipping. If you do go up ti his place be prepared.... you may go home with a Panzer :angry-screaming:
