Biggest Tire Size for C160

Recommended Posts

wheelhorsekid

I have a 74' C160 with stock tires on it now. I want to do AG tires, and go as big as I can on the stock rims. Does anyone know just how big I can go? I friend has a Scott riding mower that's new and the tires are really wide, they stick out past the rim on the side by an inch or two. Any help appreciated.

Thanks, WHK

You can get 23 x 10.50's on the stock rims but the tires tread section will be more rounded and less flat (less contact with the ground). I think the tires will actually be a bit taller if mounted on the narrower 7" wide rims. The next size rim is an 8" or 8.5" wide rim found on most 520's and the GT-1800 and GT1848's. I think getting a pair of wider rims is the best way to go with the 10.5 rubber.

WHK if you use 23x10.5x12 tires you need to use 8 1/2" rims it will make the tires flatter . You will have to watch your offset on rims to . If tractor is hydro you will not be able to much offset. With 8 spd you can get the tires in closer . Watch out for belt guard. I have a raider with 24x12x12's on it and a b-80 stretch 2 seater with 24x13x12's on it . They look like dragsters from the back.

Ok I found 23X8.5-12 rims. So I can put on them 23x10.5x12 tires with no problem on my C160? What do I need to do about the offset? Sorry I have not much of a clue when it comes to this stuff. Thanks.

Off set is the back spacing, bolt a rim on with out the tire see if it clears the trans, as was stated hydros will need more offset to the outside, your tractor has the flip up fender with tool box and I think you can use cub cadet rims they have less off set than WH but should fit, my son has 8.5" wide CC rims with 10.5 tires on his C-145 8 speed but it is a VERY tight fit, 520 style wheels are nice with lot of offset.

If you are going to use chains this winter make sure you leave room for them. I learned this the hard way of course

Hey WHK --

Not sure if you bought your tires yet but here is what you can expect w/ 10.5s on a C-160:

Dico1.jpg

I have wheel spacers in place to make those rims work for my tractor... they are John Deere 8.5" wide rims (and have a very neutral offset). In a way they are nice because it brings those tires very close (1/2" away) to the hydro motor... keeping the overall width of the tractor a little less (as compared to WH 8.5" rims which would stick out more). Overall width is an issue in my storage situation... and I will never run chains on those.

Happy hunting!

You say you found 23/8.5/12 rims but I think you're talking about the tires that are on those rims. 23/8.5/12 is a tire size but that does'nt mean the rims they are on are 8.5". I would bet those rims are the standard 7" rims. You need to measure the rims to see what width they are. I have 23/10.50/12 ags on my 74 C-160-8 on 8.5" wh rims and they fit perfect.

100% sure they are 8.5" wide rims w/ 23x10.50-12 tires. The thing that can't be stressed enough though is offset. WH rims have a very negative offset... JD rims (from my experience) have a very neutral offset. Obviously WH rims are ideal since they give you the most room to work with... you could likely run 24x12.00-12 on those with a C-160 automatic... but I ended up with the JD rims and wheel spacers to make up for the offset difference.

Inexpensive - Carlisle X Trac ATV Bias Tire - 16x6.50-8 Good quality (I expect) Should look nice with my large rear aggies
I don't know how much these have been discounted, but I expect anything you find like this from a good brand will be 2X to 3X the price. $45 each at Amazon. This tire is discontinued.

Rough measurement seems they are about 16" tall and the lugs are about 1/2" deep.

I’m trying to restore my grandfathers old 252-H to use around my property. The tires are shot and the rims aren’t too far behind. Anyone have any recommendations for rims and tires that would fit well on it?

      right now it has 22 x 7.50 - 12 on the back and 15 x 6 - 6 on the front.

I have a 1990 wheel horse classic model # 31-12KE01 and need to replace all 4 tires. The sizes are 15x6 8 NHS on front and 23x9.5 12 NHS Rear. I'm wondering if anyone has any specific tire they have purchased and found to be reliable? I have an acre yard with a few hills but nothing severe. I've looked at Carlisle, Marastar to name a few. Also do most folks keep the same rims and take them all in at one time to a local tire garage to have them mounted or just buy new ones with rims? Is having the correct size shown above all I need in order to make sure its an exact fit for my tractor?

      Hi,
I just bought my first ever tractor - 1989 520H. One of the front tires has a slow leak, and they are both showing signs of age, so am looking at buying new. When I look at some of the options on the Miller site, they have 3 basic types of tires as options in the 16x6.50-8 size ..
circumferential ribs (either equal sized or central rib larger diameter) ag style chevron 'super lugs' turf tire - quadrilateral overlapping treads
What are the considerations for considering these different tire types ?
The current rear tires are turf type, no weights, but with chains.

I have 1.5 acres, quite hilly, and am using the tractor for some mowing, tilling, and garden plowing.

      Appreciate some perspective, suggestions.
      Regards.
