I get to work on a Tecky

Recommended Posts

My brother and his business partner were given an old Troy-Built tiller and said I can have it if I want it. It belonged to my mother's cousin and has been sitting for 10 yrs at least. Motor turns over with the recoil and it had electric start. The motorcycle style battery is still on it. This thing is a tank with large ag tires and huge handles. All I can make out on it is the Tecky decal :bitch: Fuel line is chewed off and the muffler is rotted but it seems like it'd all there. I won't get it until the spring. :banana-wrench: Pics to come when it arrives! I'll be going to Lowes for some extra hammers!

Never been a big fan of those tecky's but i have a troy-built with the 6 hp and it has never given me any trouble. it sits from sept till march and always starts on the 1st or 2nd pull. :snooty:

This thing is pretty cool . I've never seen a tiller that moves the motor up and down to tighten the belt. Kind of like a side ways Speedex

Just a word of advice. When you get it running, (Don't drop the tines deep in hard ground. It will get up and walk on the tines and drag you anywhere it wants to go.)

I have owned three and still have two. Drop the tines two or three notches at a time in hard ground and go over the area three or four time to get to full depth.

We already got a 5 HP Pony that my wife uses. That thing has dragged her all over town. :ROTF: I keep telling her just let go of the handles and it will stop. I had to put the bumper on it. The recoil got bashed twice!!

The old tillers don't stop when you turn loose. They diffidently need a bumper.

Here's the beast. I just got it home. Has spark but all the wires are shot and the fuel line is chewed off. Muffler is rotted. Maybe a stack!........

We had one just like it when I was younger. They will launch when they hit a big rock! It was a great tiller though, I believe it is still tilling.

Looks like a beast, but I would rather be sitting down than walking behind. :ychain: I'm just lazy like that. :ROTF:

One of those brings back some memories :woohoo: Make sure you engage the drive wheels before the tines or you will not catch it until it runs into a fence!!

Spent many an hour behind one of those keepin the weeds down on the farm in between rows of truck crops, blew a rod out the side of the block one day. Dad picked up a motor somewhere for it, and he still runs it today.

I rebuilt the carb on a 7HP from 1966 sears and much to my surprise....the dang thing actually ran really good when i was done without much adjustments off of the initial settings. I don't know what all the fuss is about... :ychain:

Let's see. Carb throttle plate froze up, starter no workie, wire broke off behind the flywheel & gear oil leak at one wheel that was bad enough it kept leaving spots on my floor. I got it for free. I decided to put it on CL for $100 to see what would happen. It was gone in 2 hrs. Loaded it into a guy's mini van. Forgot to tell him about the gear oil leak!
