Finally some pics of my 62 Economy restore

Recommended Posts

Ken B

I finally got my 62 Economy torn down and cleaned up so I can get some fresh paint on her. I had to weld a dozen holes closed on the hood, while I was at it I had to reweld the tabs for the hood stand as the lower ones all snapped at some time. I should have pics of the tractor pretty well finished tomm. I think when this tractor is completely done I might restore my 69 1614 Power King.

Looks good not much to them, like a over grown RJ.

I had an old Economy/Jim Dandy very similar to that once.

It had a second gearbox, but it was just a reduction box.....non shiftable.

Man was that sucker slow....probably pull down a barn though.

Great job on yours, looks like new.

Since I'm on a roll I might do my 1614 as well. Kelly is right, these are similar to restoring an RJ, though much BIGGER and much HEAVIER. My hands are going to have to heal up first though, I got a couple of nice deep cuts and gouges from this one. Your 1614 is all pimped out with all the options, it'll look great with a restore!

I just cannot pull the trigger on restoring mine. While yours looks awesome and they really do when restored..there is something about riding mine with it's original cloths....

I hear ya there. I don't like to restore a tractor that is in pretty decent original shape either. This tractor and my 1614 were painted over and kinda ugly. Besides all of that it is always nice not having to worry about scratchin up a nice paint job. If I do restore my 1614 I'm going to try to have the underside of the fender pan color matched.

What color did you end up using on this one?

For this one I used Allis Chalmers Orange. It seems the earlier Economy's were more of an orange color and it also seems that like Wheel Horse, the shades of colors varied from one day to another.
