So as you guys know, I am restoring a 71 Bronco. Today, I started bringing in parts to work, to sand blast them on my lunch break.

First part up was some sheet metal pieces for my K90 that's going on my RJ. Those were cake, came out great and the paint stripped off pretty easily.

Next came the spindles for the Bronco. I don't know what they did to paint those, but the paint on the spindles are tough as nails. Took me 15 minutes to do 3 Kohler pieces, and the other 15 minutes of my lunch was spent doing one, yes one, spindle.

Granted, I was using a finer sand to do less damage to the parts, but the paint on the spindle just did not want to come off. Glad to see they didn't skimp on the painting back then.

Electrolysis, electroylsis, electrolysis......

Here's a threaqd with some info (Thanks Mike/sorekiwi).

I've been useing a tank to successfully remove grime, grease, rust & even paint off several WH parts for a few years now.

About the only things I sandblast anymore are items to big to fit in the tank or tuff baked enamel finishes like wheels.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the E-tank only take off paint if there's rust under the paint? At least that's what I gather from all the threads I read on here.

Roughly 95% or more of my Bronco is rust free, and I was shocked at how good a shape the parts are in. Really, the only places with rust is where the paint was already scraped off.

If I am wrong, please tell me so and maybe I can make a tank and cut my blast time down.

Thanks

You are corrected, the electrolysis process will lift paint, rust & grease.

Like I said I seldom dig out my sandblaster anymore, infact it's been so long since I used it I may have to e tank it.
